The prosecutor giving the opening statement is a true trial lawyer. That's all I can say. As if performing in a stage play, his presentation masterfully painted the graphical imagery of the events of 1 1/2 years ago.

(12,482 posts)his case is good and he knows how to present it.

Even Zimmerman was falling asleep. Also, it can't be good that the defense seems to be getting into scuffles with the judge.

(74 posts)I didn't get to listen. Did they address the several minute gap between zimmerman losing sight of martin during the non emergency call and the gunshot? This is the one bit I have not seen well addressed. We know from the police calls there were several minutes, and the home where Martin was staying was only 400 feet away. Did he give a reason why martin stayed near zimmermans car?

(61,588 posts)Thanks for clarifying, for some season I thought it was only like two houses down from where the car was parked. That would explain why I never heard it addressed!

(9,289 posts)They will use inconsistencies in Zimmerman's statements (and things that might seem inconsistent) to support their contention that Zimmerman lied. And those alleged lies will be offered as proof that Zimmerman did not kill Martin in self-defense. The minor inconsistencies one would expect even if Zimmerman were innocent will be milked for everything they can get out of them. That is the best they can do because it is pretty clear that Zimmerman was being straddled by Martin, yelling for help, and getting beat up. Two eye witnesses to the struggle, Zimmerman's injuries, Martin's lack of injuries not related to being shot, and the grass all over Zimmerman's back make that hard to deny. And there are no eye witnesses that can contradict Zimmerman's claim that Martin assaulted him and not vice-versa. The prosecution has already demonstrated that it is ethically challenged by trying to get junk science into the proceedings; so I expect they will do whatever they can to distort the fact that there is loads of reasonable doubt. My guess is that they hope the jury will at least go for some sort of a compromise and convict Zimmerman of manslaughter.

(12,482 posts)that mind set will do z in. as the brilliant prosecutor pointed out. z killed martin "not because he had to...but because he wanted to."

(9,289 posts)of being in the neighborhood to commit a crime. Martin was just walking home. However, as I am sure you know, there is a long way to go from Zimmerman's suspicions about Martin to the conclusion that he didn't kill in self-defense. He expressed his feelings about criminals who get away when he called them fucking punks and assholes. I don't see how that makes him a bad guy.

(61,588 posts)No serious injuries to Zimmerman. The only one seriously injured was Trayvon, who was shot dead. Zimmerman looked clean at arrest. Also, no injuries to either of their hands, indicating no struggle. No evidence of a fight. Not clear at all who was on top when. Conflicting eyewitnesses.
Looks like cold blooded murder to me.

(9,289 posts)One police officer described Zimmerman's back as having grass on it. Everyone concedes that Zimmerman had a bloody and swollen nose and cuts on the back of his head. I never said that Zimmerman's injuries were serious. There are only two eyewitnesses who saw Zimmerman during the altercation with Martin. Both gave testimony that places Zimmerman on the ground. One described a struggle.
