Wait what? This from a Woman!

“In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out” -Texas Rep. Jody Laubenberg (R) on exceptions for rape and incest

What? No. No.

Rape kits are used to collect physical evidence of an assault, not to give you a pseudo-abortion.
http://bobcesca.thedailybanter.com/

Texas Rep. Jody Laubenberg (R) sponsored several anti-abortion measures currently making their way to the Governor’s desk. Taken together, they would shut down the vast majority of the state’s women’s health clinics and criminalize abortions after 20 weeks. But in reasoning out why she did not support an exemption for rape victims in the 20-week ban, Laubenberg betrayed a woeful lack of information on the procedures a victim of rape undergoes — namely, the “rape kit,” which is used to collect data on the assailant and in no way relates to pregnancy

SNIP:

“In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out,” she said, comparing the procedure to an abortion. “The woman had five months to make that decision, at this point we are looking at a baby that is very far along in its development.”

SNIP:

Rape kits are used to collect DNA evidence from the bodies of rape victims; after a victim enters a hospital, staff collect bodily fluid, residue under the victim’s nails, and any blood or hair samples that could be relevant for an investigation. Rape kits are in no way equivalent to an abortion.

Rape and abortion are subjects he rarely brings up. (He was defending his no-exceptions opposition to abortion when he got in trouble for saying that women’s bodies could automatically prevent pregnancy in cases of “legitimate rape.”)

I just felt a small wave of nausea at this female's gross level of ignorance, and her legislative power to make things worse.

I know it's bad karma for me to even think like this, but sometimes I wish she and her legislative ilk could have such experiences up close and personal.

Have you had just about enough of ignorant GOP men saying incredibly stupid, clueless things about rape and abortion? Well so has Texas state Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R-Shut It Down), who obviously decided it was time for GOP women to get in on the act. During debate over a bill that would close most of the state’s clinics that perform abortions, Laubenberg argued against an exemption for victims of rape and incest, dumbsplaining that such an exception isn’t needed, because

“in the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out,” she said, incorrectly comparing the procedure to collect physical evidence after a sexual assault to an abortion. “The woman had five months to make that decision, at this point we are looking at a baby that is very far along in its development.”

In addition to automatically winning a nomination for Wonkette’s coveted Legislative Shitmuffin of the Year Award, Rep. Laubenberg also deserves a prize for the strangest description of an abortion to ever come from a “pro-life” person, and the worst euphemism for abortion since that line in “Hills Like White Elephants” about “letting the air in.”

But we hope GOP men have learned their lesson. THAT is how you do stupid. None of this silly Nazi-derived mumbo-jumbo about “legitimate rape” or the morning-after pill or anything like that. If you really want to do batshit insane, just follow the lead of Jodie Lauberberg and throw mere reality out the window altogether, because in Texas politics, you don’t need to be grounded in “facts,” you just have to be “pro-life.”

Maybe not even herself.

Rape Kits are in invasive and must be awful for women already going through a traumatic experience.

I know here in Ohio they have special nurses to do the kits. Women who are raped are also offered morning after pills and STD meds.

These quotes are, of course, horrifying... however I can't help but be a little amused that after the massive ass-whoopin' of Akin and some of those other imbeciles, in many cases directly due to these specific sorts of asinine statements, for some odd reason the GOP still can't seem to keep their religious right fuckleburgers from saying this shit.

I guess to these folks it's like double fudge chocolate ice cream.... laced with crack.
