Good luck with that, asshole. One of the best things that Wendy Davis did was show these repukes for what they are: Nasty bullies. David and Goliath battles never depict the goliaths well and this one surely didn't.
Hours after claiming that they successfully passed some of the toughest abortion restrictions in the country, Republican lawmakers reversed course and said a disputed late-night vote on the bill did not follow legislative procedures, rendering the vote moot and giving Democrats a bitterly fought if short-lived victory.
The state Senate voted on the abortion bill at the end of a 10-hour-plus filibuster by a Fort Worth Democrat. But the vote came right at a midnight deadline amid widespread confusion and the noise of a chanting crowd of the bills opponents in an upstairs gallery. The legislative session expired at midnight, and Senate Democrats said the vote took place at 12:02 a.m. or 12:03 a.m., while Republicans disputed those claims, saying the vote was legitimate.
But at 3 a.m., Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, the presiding officer of the Senate and a Republican supporter of the bill, told lawmakers and reporters that although the bill passed on a 19 to 10 vote, the bill could not be signed in the presence of the Senate and was therefore dead, blaming an unruly mob using Occupy Wall Street tactics as the primary cause.
With all the ruckus and noise going on, Mr. Dewhurst said, he could not complete administrative duties to make the vote official and sign the bill. Senate Democrats and womens rights advocates said the real reason the vote could not be made official was a time stamp on official documents that showed the bill passed after midnight.

Be used as a rallying cry for the war on women .
damn straight, skippy. the optics sucked for: Texas repub senators and wingnut anti-choicers. They were great for Wendy Davis and pro-choice advocates and women.

(2,578 posts)Their horrid bill deserves to be buried with extreme dishonor, never to rise again.
And then we should get to piss on its grave.

(114,904 posts)but it won't go into effect. The ACLU and PP will challenge it. First they'll ask for and get an injunction. Even the repubs know this.

What the hell does any of this have to do with your childishly jingoistic imaginings of what the Revolutionary War looked like anyway? Grow up.

(10,951 posts)been taken to court it would have been entered into evidence that someone (or some people) changed the date and time stamp on the vote which is felony tampering. It would have become easier to fight for prosecution of the guilty party (parties) and the sins of the Republican Party would have seen the light of day.
I hope that someone in Texas will continue to push the illegal activity aspect in the social media.
Changing the time stamps was icing on the cake. They refused to follow the rules all day long but this was CLEARLY an attempt to lie about what had happened. Pretty clear cut. I hope some district attorney takes a look at it.
An Austin Grand Jury might just find something to go after.

I do not believe for a second that either Dewhurst or any of the other Repukes expected to have happen what DID happen last night.
Oh, and the Republicans LIED and CHEATED and the time stamp proves that. And I'm going to keep reminding people about that for a LONG, LONG time!
