The North, as well as the South, is being infected with discriminatory electoral laws due to Republican-d0minated legislatures. I would be happy to see both the North and the South be subjected to Federal oversight--except, of course, that "Federal oversight" is itself rapidly approaching the status of a running joke. (Think FISA.)

Nebraska is nonpartisan officially. That makes 23 that are not Republican dominated. 27 that are. The entire West Coast is Democratic majority State Houses. Oregon and Washington vote by mail, utterly avoiding almost every problem you face in the East Coast with old fashioned 'polling places' and 'poll watchers' and 'voting hours'. Each State makes it's own laws, yours want lines, polling places, limited time to vote, limited ballot access and difficulties for those with disabilities. We want higher turnout each election. We get what we want.
Oversight from DC Republicans is not welcome. There is no need.

where I used words like "all" or said that the problem was universal at this point.

Don't get too smug, though. Remember that Wisconsin was in the forefront of extending the vote throughout the 20th century, first with same-day registration, short residency periods, no-excuse-needed early voting, etc. & it all got blown away in 2 years when we became a subsidiary of Koch Enterprises via ALEC.

You think it can't happen to you? Don't bet on it. You haven't yet been targeted by the kind of all-out campaign big money can put together. Wait until the 1% starts outspending you by maybe 100 to 1. (It was 30 to 1 in WI that we know about during the recall, and most likely 2 or 3 times that amount through undisclosed contributions & "independent" funds.)

$50 billion to take over California? Peanuts.
