Frank Rich thinks Greenwald demolished David Gregory

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/frank-rich-thinks-david-gregory-should-be-relegated?ref=fpb

<snip>
New York Magazine's Frank Rich on Wednesday pondered the journalistic chops of "Meet the Press" host David Gregory.

<snip>
"Is David Gregory a journalist? As a thought experiment, name one piece of news he has broken, one beat he’s covered with distinction, and any memorable interviews he’s conducted that were not with John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Dick Durbin, or Chuck Schumer," Rich said, adding that Greenwald "demolished Gregory."

The former New York Times columnist went on to suggest that Gregory likely would have assailed Daniel Ellsberg for leaking the Pentagon Papers about 40 years ago.

"The new, incoming leadership of NBC News has a golden opportunity to revamp Sunday morning chat by making a change at Meet the Press," Rich said. "I propose that Gregory be full-time on Today, where he can speak truth to power by grilling Paula Deen."

His description of Gregory & his corporate ilk was pure poetry:

About the bitterness shown by some in the media toward him for the Snowden story, Greenwald nailed it:

But most of it is what I have long criticized them for most: they are far more servants to political power than adversarial watchdogs over it, and what provokes their rage most is not corruption on the part of those in power (they don’t care about that) but rather those who expose that corruption, especially when the ones bringing transparency are outside of, even hostile to, their incestuous media circles.

Greenwald handed Gregory his corporate-toady water bucket on a platter with his answer to Gregory's question:

“To the extent that you have aided and abetted Snowden, even in his current movements, why shouldn’t you, Mr. Greenwald, be charged with a crime?”

“I think it’s pretty extraordinary,” Greenwald said to Gregory, “that anybody who would call themselves a journalist would publicly muse about whether or not other journalists should be charged with felonies.”

I don't really think of Gregory as a journalist any more. He's more like a political talk show host. So Rich's comments about Gregory are irrelevant. David Letterman could have asked the question. The problem wasn't the question.

The problem was the evasive answer.
