Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) beckpedaled Wednesday after he suggested that the Supreme Court's decisions on same-sex marriage could lead to bestiality.
The self-described "libertarian Republican" told conservative firebrand Glenn Beck that, in the absence of marriage laws, people may attempt to marry other species.
But it is difficult, because if we have no laws on this, people take it to one extension further does it have to be humans? Paul said. "The question is: can some social mores be part of legislation? Historically, we did at the state legislative level, we did allow for some social mores to be part of it."
<...>
But the very same day, Paul sang a very different tune in an interview on Fox News Channel.
Like I said, I dont think it will be with multiple humans, and I think it will be human and human, Paul told Fox's Megyn Kelly. And so I didnt mean that to mean anything other than that I think the government will still probably be involved in defining marriage to a certain aspect. I dont think were going on towards polygamy or things beyond that.

The sooner Paul and the Teabagger contingent he has allied himself with can be discredited, the quicker the political dialogue and actions in this nation will be. They've made themselves useful tools.

(38,437 posts)When he said, "people may attempt to marry other species," he meant Republicans might be tempted to marry non-Republicans.

(4,015 posts)His comments show that the modern Libertarian movement is just an adjunct of the GOP.
If he was a true Libertarian (which by itself is pretty crazy), he wouldn't be concerned with what other people do with their genitals as long as it doesn't involve him.
Even his Libertarianism is phony. What gives with this guy?

(34,845 posts)I can easily imagine a society a hundred, two hundred years from now when all this marriage crap seems like prehistoric blather and people will form whatever families they want composed of however many people they want.
Of course that's not what Rand Paul was speaking about. He only sees as far as the next political opportunity to shoot his mouth off.
