Ecuador threatens legal action against leaker of invalid travel document for Snowden

That's impressively ironic:

Ecuador's diplomatic mission in London issued a safe-conduct pass so National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden could travel to Ecuador to seek political asylum, but the action was unauthorized and the pass is invalid, government officials said Thursday.
...
In contrast, Ecuadorean officials took a defiant tone as they scrambled to explain a single-page, unsigned letter dated June 22 that says Snowden has the right to travel to Ecuador for purposes of political asylum, and asks other countries to allow him safe passage. The letter was published by the Univision television network Wednesday night.
...
Secretary of Political Management Betty Tola told a news conference the safe-conduct pass "has no validity and is the exclusive responsibility of the person who issued it."
...
Tola told reporters that Snowden's asylum application hadn't been processed because he was not in Ecuador as required by law. She also threatened legal action against whoever had leaked the document. She and other officials offered no further details about his case.

1. If they're serious they'll roll the head of the consul in London

But they're hoping that their use of illegal travel documents doesn't stick to them thus undermining their other legal claims.

4. bwhahahahahaha

Remember, it's only bad when the US pursues leakers of classified information.

Every other country has a right to prosecute leakers, except the United States.

13. If Snowden was depending on this:

... a single-page, unsigned letter dated June 22 that says Snowden has the right to travel to Ecuador for purposes of political asylum,

I doubt he has any friends looking out for him.

hung out to dry. His Dad thinks Wikileaks has been pulling the strings, and I'm damned if don't agree with him.

19. Wouldn't that be something...

An unsigned letter originating in the Ecuadoran Embassy in London, home of Jullian Assange, who coincidentally, has been very vocal about trying to help Snowden get to Ecuador.

It's certainly plausible.

29. In 2nd grade I faked a note from my mother...

...saying she had read my teacher's report on my bad behavior. When that didn't fly, I claimed my mother had sprained her wrist and asked me to sign it for her.

Sounds like Julian or somebody is operating on a 2nd grade level!

27. Snowden has some great help, let them continue the good work, continue to send him money

to continue whatever their cause has plans to do. We don't need the scumbag in the US, let his punishment be as to never be able to grace our shores again, it will be cheaper for the US if he stays away. He is a scumbag thief.
