(39,191 posts)Dogs and cats have become more important to me now than the bullshit politics in this country. The hatred is simply too much of a burden to carry.
Rescuing the creatures that man has discarded is my work.
Fuck politics, keep your pets safe this holiday.

(14,881 posts)My dogs will go to the local pond early for a good swim tomorrow.
Sadly, Gov. 38% made fireworks legal in Maine as his "job creation" program. Luckily my village was quick to pass ordinances limiting the times, but doubtless there will be explosions all around me tomorrow up until 11pm on the nose. Too close and loud to cover with music and/or fan. So my big guy will be cowering indoors, but hopefully the company of his braver little companion dog and me will encourage him to not be so afraid. He's been getting better during thunderstorms lately, so my fingers are crossed.

(8,142 posts)I had a German Shepherd injure herself trying to get out of the yard about five years ago and she never did fully recover. We left her in the backyard which had a high wall around it but all of the fireworks going off around the neighborhood freaked her out. Bring your pets inside for the night and keep them safe.

If we go somewhere this year, I'll keep him nearby to help keep him calm.

(13,081 posts)One of them refuses to eat his food outside if our presence. He fills his mouth like a chipmunk, runs back to bed, eats his three pieces of kibble, then repeats the process.
One of them has broken out three times now through the garage (a flaw I have since remedied). All three times he went to the front door and waited for me to open it. Once the neighbors commented on it. Another time the wind blew the front door open; he laid in the doorway all night, guarding the entry and not letting the other dogs out.
The third one sits on my lap when I go poo. I can't even stop her, because she opens the door.
Fireworks sound almost good. It might buy a few moments of privacy!

Happily, there are no fireworks within miles of where I live, so I don't have to worry tomorrow.
