HELP DU! Please Get This Word Out! Chalk-U-Py is Today In San Diego
Jeff Olsen protested the bank bailouts by writing with children's chalk (not the paint) in front of three Bank of America's in San Diego. He wrote nothing crude, only topical political slogans about the bank. BofA pulled strings and got the guy arrested for vandalism (city sidewalk...how is that vandalizing the bank?).
But then, from appearances, they pulled even more strings and the guy is facing 13 years in jail AND the judge has done some very suspect things. He ordered that Olsen is not allowed to use any type of First Amendment Argument about free speech, he is only willing to allow the discussion to be about "vandalism". Then the judge ordered a gag rule so Jeff Olsen is not allowed to use his (ahem) first amendment rights to discuss the violation of his (ahem) first amendment rights.
So today in the city of San Diego, people who believe in the Constitutional Right of Free Speech are meeting in San Diego, chalk in hand, to write on the sidewalks in protest. Please DU, let's help get the word out for our friends in San Diego. Free Speech is essential to democracy. BofA and this judge have both shown they do not believe in the first amendment.
