They used to care

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”

― Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Republicans wonder what is wrong with their party? It is the basic core goodness that's missing. It used to be there. Republicans used to care and the debate was only the logistics of how to help make it better.

Now, it is utterly amazing that they wonder why people don't like them. When they spit the word Obamacare - totally oblivious that they are ignoring the fact that most people still do care about other human beings and goodness wins out in the end

If you strip away all the tangential issues....money, politics and methods...we are always on the
side of goodness:

* It is kinder to care about a foreigner seeking a better life in US

* It is kinder to want no war and killing

* It is kinder to want all people to have a doctor and to be cared for when sick

* It is kinder to care about a women in an impossible situation who doesn't want to have a baby.

* It is kinder to want all people who love each other to get married.

* It is kinder to want poor and desperate people to be able to eat and having housing

* It is kinder to support the many who are out of work

* It is kinder not to kill a killer in cold blood

2. I am hoping, for the good of our country, that a republican somewhere, somehow, steps

up and says:

"We care about the 20 something million people who can not freely see a doctor when they are ill....here is our
plan on how to help them and solve the problem......"

Not because I ever want them in power, but because it is so horrid to think that almost half the country has grown to
not give a shit about others.

4. They are blinded by hate, they're all about obstruction.

It's really sickening, too, how they are on a desperate campaign demanding party loyalty, one that doesn't seem to leave room for an individual among them to express any compassion.

It's so sad.

9. And I hope, in our lifetime, that our democratic leaders will finally stand up and

not be ashamed and say things like, "I am for the ACA because I want everyone to be cared for...not just those who can afford it..but all human beings." Or, "I don't want a human being who wants to be here to be electrocuted or shot at the border." Or, "We have got to slow down the war machine and use that money for the good of all."

the country is changing. And this may be the last election in which anyone but a fool tries to play — on a national level, at least — the cards of racial exclusion, of immigrant fear, of the patronization of women and hegemony over their bodies, of self-righteous discrimination against homosexuals...

8. My parents, staunch Democrats, voted for Stevenson, but admired and trusted Eisenhower.

They were just disappointed that Ike didn't push for progressive social programs like FDR and Truman.
Sound familiar?

10. Rapture politics plus "tough love"

From my debates with RW Christians , they believe in the Rapture and actually look forward to nuclear war, global warming, you name it.
Then as far as any kind of safety net for the poor, they say that should be left to charities and that its bad for them to be dependent on govt assistance. So they say the Dems actually hate the poor keeping them dependent on the govt 'Plantation".

17. i have been trying to wrap my head around how republican people I know are nothing

but kind and charitable to the people around them and someone in their community in need. Yet, have no global view of the masses of people in need. It strikes me as so disparate. I do know for a fact that the Rush's of the world have been drumming this into their listeners for years and years. That everyone who needs help is a slacker and taking advantage of the system. My sister was an analyst for the welfare system in CT and had to determine what money was needed to exist. She said that contrary to what people say, the percentage of people who are gaming the system is very low.
