In an Ugly Racist Fox News Rant Sarah Palin Calls President Obama Lackadaisical
Sarah Palin welcomed herself back to Fox News today with an ugly racist rant that culminated with her breaking out Jim Crow stereotypes and calling President Obama lackadaisical.
Palin used a question about the pursuit of Edward Snowden to launch a racist attack against President Obama:
Well, you know the whole issue with Snowden and with the governments violation of our 4th Amendment rights of our privacy and against searches and seizures of our property and communications. The problem there is that government has lied to us, and they do spy on our communications, and it took Snowden to disclose that, but if hes violated the law then he needs to get back here and answer to the rule of law, because we are still a nation that respects the rule of law. Right? Even though amnesty bill just sort of thwarted all that.
But with Obama deciding to just oh I guess lead from behind on this issue too, thats the community organizer in our president. Thats a bit of that lackadaisical eh you know, dont have to take responsibility. His resume proves he hasnt had to responsibility for much in all these years. This just another issue, another example that falls in line with a community organizer.

(10,942 posts)a case of single malt scotch before the debate, Sarah may score one point out of many chances. Palin is an idiot, who unfortunately is worshiped by ignorant people that want to take the country back to the twenties. Palin and her fans are irrelevant, and deep down inside, they are starting to realize that inescapable fact.

(50,254 posts)Does she own some really low-priced dictionary that defines "community organizer" as "synonym for lazy slacker"?
Or does she still think she'll eventually undo the 2008 result simply be repeating the WORDS "community organizer" over and over and over again?

I also recently learned at DU that when my black, Talladega born father would tell us to: Get to fetchin and steppin - normally said to us when we weren't jumping up and doing something our mother told us to do . . . That it was a reference to being an Uncle Tom.
I wonder how many people Sister Sarah Alaskstan counted on NOT knowing that when she said it?

Lackadaisical is a word. Not an everyday word, but just a word with no racist connotations in my life.
Eh, my mother thought my school performance was lackadaisical.
I can't keep up.
Edited to add: With the Wasilla Barbie, it could all be context. Her word-salad contains so many dog-whistles you can hardly get through it. It's the nature of word-salad to have mixed metaphors, btw.
1-Old-Man
(2,667 posts)That's a good example of the proper use of the word, my mother thought my performance in school was lackadaisical as well and my father thought even less of it.
But with Palin, and in fact I've noticed with many Republicans, words seem to take on new meanings. I don't mean so much the dog whistles, but just plain language is often horribly distorted by them. It goes hand in hand with their style of argumentation, one in which facts do not matter and words have only the meaning the speaker wishes to imply. So with Palin we could both be both right about the word and wrong about how she, and only she, is using it.

(620 posts)http://www.dailywritingtips.com/using-the-adjective-lackadaisical/
The adjective lackadaisical derives ultimately from the word lack in the Middle English sense of loss, failure, reproach, shame. When people were overcome by the sadness, unfairness, or futility of life, they would put the back of their hands to their foreheads and exclaim Ah, lack!
Ah, lack became the word alack. Then came the expression Alack the day!

(38,187 posts)And mostly when I have heard any of those additional terms you just posted in your quote, it was usually white women talking about their white husbands or ex-husbands. Ironically, the first person I ever heard using the term lackadaisical was an English teacher who gave it to us as a vocabulary word for the week. She as AA. She never mentioned it was racist.
Then again, pretty much every single word we use in the south has a racist history to it, according to DU. I am slowly learning that the only acceptable posting policy for southerners on DU is selective mutism.

Of course, it's classic Palin word salad...somehow standing up for the 4th amendment when there's a Democrat in the White House but surely feels justified when the dubya regime conducted illegal wiretaps. Hypocrisy is who she is...and what makes her amusing to watch. The sad thing is there's a lot of unhinged out there who relish that racist laden red meat...

(35,699 posts)Whether Sarah is aware of it or not, it is racist language. And yeah it is stupid also and I get it that in her case it is probably ignorance on her part. But ignorance is no excuse because historically tagging African Americans as "lazy" and "shiftless" has been part of the standard white supremacist M.O. and anyone who is so clueless that they don't realize that should be called on it.
