Is this workplace retaliation for jury duty?

A coworker of mine was out for jury duty today, which we all know is a legal obligation. However, last week, our boss warned her that all of her work better be done. So, to avoid getting written up, she has to work late into Friday night to get everything done. Does this constitute retaliation?

... I do know this has been my experience. It is probably legal, but certainly is not in the spirit of the law

is the boss de facto HR/owner? I can understand her doing extra work, but sometimes bosses ask the impossible. Doesn't seem much like a team player. Can other employees share some of the extra load?
