Video
Power couple Beyonce and Jay Z have reportedly gifted their employees with huge bonus checks. According to sources, all 80 of their employees have gotten a bonus of more than $45,000, totalling close to $4 million. An insider told TMZ that employees were so shocked that they had to make sure that the performers had not made an an error on their paychecks. A lot of them couldn't believe it and phoned his personal assistant to check that there hadn't been some mistake."

Didn't really know anything about this guy until I saw him on Real Time last week, he seems like a really decent human being. Good for him.

Oprah? Oprahoma?

Hip-hop mogul Shawn Carter, aka “Jay Z,” and legendary singer and human-rights activist Harry Belafonte have recently been embroiled in a highly publicized dispute over the responsibilities of black icons to the larger African American community.

Belafonte, who has effortlessly wedded a successful international career as a singer, dancer and actor with vocal and important support for civil rights, anti-apartheid and human activism, chastised Jay Z for “turning his back on social responsibility” and included the rapper’s wife, Beyoncé, in his public indictment.

How much are Jay Z and Beyonce worth?

I do not wish to bash them, but I will not parade them around as saints for this.

So 4 million is about 1/2% of their net worth. If they were the median US household (2010), this would be about 380$. Not super generous.

He didn't inherit it. He worked for it. He grew up poor. He sold drugs to make ends meet. Then he turned himself around, started his hip-hop career, followed by a very successful record label and clothing line. From nothing to something. A true success story. Not to mention he's given back to his community, and the US at large. He's a good guy.
