WHEN DID WE STOP NOTICING AND LISTENING?

To me it started with Reagan. His administration set out a long term agenda to dismantle living wages, and constitutional rights. Some of it was stemmed by Clinton but not much. A prime example other than the air traffic controllers is teachers. For 30 years now we have heard how bad our educational system is and how teachers are over paid. As soon as teachers in most districts started getting paid and TREATED as professionals, the war against them was begun. The same with postal workers and other union folks.

Another facet of this is the fact that we have dumbed down our text books for educating our nations young. Some of that results from buying them from Texas.

Most of it I feel is more insidious than that. Agree or disagree if you like: but I feel that the corporate overlords made us just fat and comfortable enough to not riot and create revolution, but fearful enough to know that we could be destitute in one or two paychecks ourselves.

We've got enough electronics to make life comfortable, quick results offer instant gratification so we to want things fast and that includes our news. We are acclimated to not listen more and 30-60 seconds to a news report, we don't delve into the why and how of events in our lives and while we are not looking: poof, your standard of living and rights are being diminished.

August 29th is a call by our brothers and sisters in the fast food industry to strike for better wages. I would love to see an all out nationwide strike. WE NEED TO WAKE UP!!!

I was a junior in college and heard Reagan speak and right then and there, I decided that I would never vote for a repuke. Reagans entire speech was about why it's ok to be a selfish bastard and it's ok to fuck over the poor!

"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty—power is ever stealing from the many to the few…. The hand entrusted with power becomes … the necessary enemy of the people. Only by continual oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot: only by unintermitted Agitation can a people be kept sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity."
-- Attribution: WENDELL PHILLIPS, speech in Boston, Massachusetts, January 28, 1852.—Speeches Before the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, p. 13 (1853). (" Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty" is also attributed to Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine.)

Exactly. Sadly, fellow citizens that are unaware or disinterested in doing anything about that truth vastly outnumber those of us who give half a shit.

If it bleeds it leads, but never..ever...show the actual result of violence. (Victim shots are verboten) it helps to keep fantasy going. It's also easy to produce.

Political scandals hardly cover the why of things...it's like asking who is the puppet master is not done.

I could go on

But even people who should know better make fun of it as free give away and shit like that.

Or maybe they know better...last thing they need is a real free press asking real questions. That includes many people on this site.
