Punished for working and expected to be grateful for it.

I started working again in April after 2.5 years of unemployment and the workplace feels like a much different place than when I left it. Three years ago, I was paid well and treated like a valuable part of the organization. Now, at my new workplace, I work harder for less, I am paying more than ever for the benefits I receive and everyone is generally treated like crap (and I hear it's now no better where I used to work). Yet, I'm supposed to be thankful for every miserable moment. Yes, I'm glad to get a paycheck. Who isn't? Dignity? Time with family? VACATION (we get vacation time, but you have to jump through hoops to get the time off)?? Forget it. I'm supposed to be happy we can now make rent. Anything else is asking WAY too much. Thank you, sir. May I please have another??

Also, some coworkers may be spies, and rat you out to management. That's true everywhere. nt raccoon Aug 2013 #5

I feel as if those of us who had union jobs let you guys down. We fought back but the propaganda just turned out to be overwhelming.

At least there may be a sense of comraderie where you work and understanding from your loved ones. Good luck and keep your eyes open for something better.

(((hugs)))

Sucky work is sucky, but it's work. But, don't settle!

I work for a company that hires everyone full-time with benefits. More importantly, they hire out of high school and the same rules apply for for entry-level hires as well as professional hires.

I'm in IT with an aviation certificate. The transition is remarkably easy.

Maybe everyone doesn't have a job and workplace that sucks, but many of us do. I just survive for my time out of there, and I just do my work as best I can. But don't get in my way at quitting time. And they have me cowed.....I do know that I need that paycheck to survive. We are all cowed.

I am lucky though. At least I am getting a decent paycheck. But I never stop looking for something better.....I just think that "better" is very rare.

Glad you did find work though. I must take a load off of you to know you have a paycheck coming. Just try to mind your own business and do your job....and don't talk too much about how bad it sucks to your coworkers because that just fuels the dissatisfaction.

We are not the only ones who feel this way. I have this posted in my office, and it makes me smile whenever I look at it.
