(775 posts)I would alert on such behavior when I am aware
of it, and if I were on a jury I would vote to hide it.
I'd say it's pretty presumptuous for any DUer
(other than myself) to claim to know who are
sockpuppets and who are previously banned
people. I think that Sid needs to spend more of
his time discussing issues and less of his time
focusing on stuff like this."

(48,181 posts)Yikes.
I like Obama. I voted for him twice and don't regret either vote, nor all the damn money and time. But I don't freaking worship him. When he's wrong, he's wrong.
Bonobo
(29,257 posts)Obama was elected with great hope that he would show that the US was NOT what it had seemed to be under Bush.
It was, for many of us, our way of saying "Look! We are not Bush! He was not us! Our values are different! Show the world too! We want change! Real change!"
It was with hope and optimism that Obama was elected.
It is with profound disappointment that he is being criticized.

(17,621 posts)I used to have the vinyl double album.
Look at all my trials and tribulations
Sinking in a gentle pool of wine
Don't disturb me now, I can see the answers
Till this evening is this morning life is fine
Always hoped that I'd be an apostle
Knew that I could make it if I tried
Then when we retire we can write the gospels
So they'll still talk about us when we've died.
That part always stuck in my head.

(34,057 posts)Now THIS is what I will think of when we do that number. That and the fact that when I got my music and came to Pilate's pieces without thinking my mind went to the exercise pilates and that is where it has stayed. A friend of mine is singing that part and I now call him that.
So now when that beautiful song comes up I will think of BO and HIS worshipers. Great Only to be taken down by pilates, cramping?

Blocking a poster:
We hope this never has to be used. We'd rather not have to block anyone. But, in case we have to, blocking is not the same as banning from DU, which banned the member from the entire site. Not so here.

(4,015 posts)Most of those 101 blocked people are folks who had no idea that they were posting in BOG and were in no way " disruptive. It's positively fascist how they ban and gloat over banning. I wish BOG wpuld not show up in greatest threads and such so it could just be ignored.
KEEP BOG OFF THE GREATEST PAGE!
The way it functions now is they just goad critical posters with ridiculous posts only in order to ban them when they reply so they can then high-five themselves and be shocked about the "hate" against Obama.
In all my life, this is the most fascist thing I have witnessed outside of history books. Positively scary to me.

(22,109 posts)And fascist, not just groupthink.
That's what amazed me.
Regardless, even inside the internet there are sites like Freereupublic and Conservative Cave which are much worse examples of groupthink and infinitely more fascistic. Other places to check out are the comments sections under any article on Fox's website, or the UK's Daily Mail. How anyone can think the Barack Obama Group - a "safe haven" on Democratic Underground for supporters of President Obama - is worse than any of those is beyond me.
Democracyinkind
(4,015 posts)Also, I used to post on boards about conspiracies and argued holocaust deniers, and that was way worse, no doubt about it.
I should therefore further qualify my statement by saying that the shock comes from finding it on such a forum as DU. I don't frequent FR and the rest so the baseline on which I am arguing here is not "the worst on the internet". If people took my post as saying that the BOG is the most fascist place on the whole internet then I'm sorry. That wasn't my point. But among boards that I consider "friendly", I have never seem anything like it. The slightest, unpersonal criticism can generate the most personal attacks.
