Where is Damascus? Can You Find It On A Map With No Lines Drawn On It?
http://toys.usvsth3m.com/damascus/
I was within 70 miles - kind of thought I'd do better. Here's what the last 500 players thought. You were better than 85% of them. People should ask you for directions!

2. Reminds me of a popular joke during the first Gulf War
What's the difference between a smart bomb and an American high school student? A smart bomb can locate Iraq.

But how do you stack up against the world? You were better than 97% of them. You're a Grade-A Damascus finder!
Great, I can find it. Still don't want to bomb it. Or anywhere near it. |

7. Most people in this country couldn't find Dallas on a map with no lines.
Hell, probably half the people in Texas couldn't find it.

I knew roughly where it was, but without any borders, I was more or less shooting in the dark. Still better than 98%.

I've studied the maps of that part of the world for a long time so this wasn't too hard.

24. Wow, you've been on DU for a whole 2 years and you've seen my "maps". And of course you don't
want to be informed about Syria. It's so much easier to be willfully ignorant.

Are you mind reading now about my wanting information about Syria? Maybe I don't want or need it from you. But keep on with your bad kitty self, it is really amusing.

22. Near the Lebanese border opposite some hills from Anjar.
I was an Anjar last summer and would have been able to see Damascus if the hills had not been in the way.

28. Sure. I type Damascus into Google Maps.
Pops right up.
I could point out its location on an empty map, but I'd be off a bit, I'm sure, as most people would. It doesn't matter. I can get a map, or a satellite view, and zoom in to see individual buildings there. It is important for people to know generally where Syria is in the Middle East. It is less important for them to be able to put their finger exactly on a map. It's much more useful to call up a map and see it and its relationship to other places on a professionally created map. |
