New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio, accusing him of running a "racist" campaign.
In an interview with New York Magazine published Saturday, Bloomberg said de Blasio is "using his family to gain support."
"I think its pretty obvious to anyone watching what hes been doing," Bloomberg said of de Blasio. "I do not think he himself is racist. Its comparable to me pointing out Im Jewish in attracting the Jewish vote."
Back in August, de Blasio released an ad featuring his African-American wife, Chirlane McCray, and his 15-year-old son Dante. In the clip, the teen says his dad "is the only Democrat with the guts to really break from the Bloomberg years."

(35,274 posts)Dog whistles are so high pitched that humans can't hear them.
That means there could be a very loud dog whistle being blown just outside your window. You wouldn't hear it.
On the other hand, if you claim one is being blown just outside your window, it might be hard (unless there was a dog around who would show he was bothered by it) to disprove the claim.
If it was a mostly white area, everybody knew deBlasio's wife was black, and Bloomberg featured an ad with his white wife and kid saying that "stability and consistency was important" at least some point out a dog whistle that nobody could deny. Nor would anybody try.
Bloomberg says there's a dog whistle. Nobody can deny that there is one because we can't hear it. On the other hand, in this case we demand proof.
"Dog whistle" ... just another way of saying, "You'd better believe my claim, because I'm not going to prove it."
He's pointing out that deBliasio has a black wife. NYC is not a mecca of racial tolerance.
