The Affordable Care Act (AKA “Obamacare”) Is Going To Save Me Over $10K Per Year

No, not me Scuba, but the author of this article.

http://www.theeverlastinggopstoppers.com/2013/10/affordable-care-act-aka-obamacare-save-10k-year/

I have written about the travesty of the American “Health Care” System before. Our current system benefits Big Pharma and CEOs. And the reason why the current GOP Congress has been fighting tooth and nail to get the Affordable Care Act off the tracks, is because it will make health insurance premiums go to actual health care for the insured.

I have been self-employed since 2002 and have had health insurance, on the same policy, with Blue Shield the entire time. I am currently paying $811 per month. My premiums have been raised frequently, randomly and excessively, particularly since they could see that their fleecing of the American public would soon be coming to an end. They could see that with President Obama and the Affordable Care Act that the only way they would be able to continue to rape us–without even a hint of lubricant–would be to raise the premiums early and often. Here is a brief history of MY PERSONAL PREMIUMS as a single self-employed female with Blue Shield:

...

But here’s what the Tea Party and the GOP don’t want you to hear. Yesterday, October 1, 2013 marked the first day of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act. I called Blue Shield, my current provider, to see what my options were–although I must admit I was very skeptical. To my surprise, I was told:

My $811 monthly premiums would be reduced to $85 per month
My $2400 annual medical deductible would be reduced to $500
My current maximum out-of-pocket expenses are determined by a complicated multitude of factors and would be reduced from a minimum of $4800 per year to $2250 per year
My regular primary care physician visits are going to be reduced from $150 to $15
My lab work, x-rays, mammograms, etc. will be reduced to a maximum of $15 each–many preventative visits are INCLUDED in the monthly premiums!

Daughter and I are both on Medicare, but I pay a fortune for a $12,500 deductible "catastrophe" plan for the other two.

I am Canadian and am 'used' to proper health care and cannot IMAGINE the stresses associated with what Americans had have to deal with all this time with their insurers.

I am jumping with joy things are getting done for the better.

And they will get better still - Obamacare is the perfect springboard to a full single payer system.

I have worked with Ontarians and that health card they have has made me jealous for years.

It can now follow me WHEREVER I choose to work and will become more affordable if I decide to take a lesser paying job. Since I live in a Medicaid expansion state, I now will never be without coverage.

This is true employment freedom.

It's going to cost me $5,000a year. On the plus side, coverage will be better and uncapped.

I still don't think $1,080 a month is a reasonable insurance premium. It wouldn't be anywhere else in the world.

BCBS sent us a letter that our current plan ($600 a month, high deductible, pays for nothing) will be ending on 12/31.

The price I'm quoting is for a silver plan as quoted by the online exchange calcuator.

Because I have a pre-existing condition now (Heart Failure), we may well wind up ahead of the game. I'm not grumbling, but I'm not skipping and strewing roses from a hat either.

Did you actually apply? I went to the Market place without signing up just to review what was available. They ask a few question such as state county, spouse children. They don't ask age. If you think the prices on the Marketplace gives you an idea of what you will be paying it may not . Example one plan I looked a gold plan would cost just over $800 according the gov. marketplace. When I went to this sight
http://www.valuepenguin.com/ppaca/exchanges/nj it tells you what the price will be with your subsidy it includes your age. That $800 plan that the gov't sight leads you to believe will be the cost before subsidy does not calculate age it will cost a 60 year old $1500 a 50 year old $1099 before subsidy.
