Petitions are fine but WRITE you Congress people to get Rush off AFN!

Earlier I posted the information about the petition at WhiteHouse.gov to ask Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to take Rush Limbaugh off AFN.

Here is an article I found about whether AFN is a sponsor of Limbaugh's radio show here in the US. At the bottom is some very important information if we really want to get him off AFN and off the air.

The American Forces Network - Are Taxpayer Dollars Funding Rush Limbaugh?

Guess what that means for us? It means if we want AFN to stop spending money on the Rush Limbaugh show, our voices need to be heard. Contacting AFN might help, but it could be limited. Contacting the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs via the DoD might help, but it would probably be limited. The best people to contact are those with direct connections to high offices in the DoD, your Congressman and your Senators.

When a military office receives a question from a Congressman or a Senator, it triggers a special reaction... it's like the biggest, squeakiest wheel in the entire USA... it's called a Congressional Inquiry. Military folks don't like those. The more Congressman that call the DoD, the better!

1. Our service men and women shouldn't be subjected to Limbaugh's hate speeches.

2. Somebody the other day was suggesting faxing your rep since they often

don't read emails or letters or listen to voicemail. The logic behind this is that if we deluge their fax machines, the staff at the very least will have to add more paper, toner, etc., and that will get their attention.

3. Oh - nice suggestion! Thank you.

And a fax will get there quicker, too.

I like your avatar, by the way.

4. The more I think of it, I'm pretty sure it was John Fugelsang and Hal Sparks who were filling

in for Stephanie Miller on the radio giving this advice. They were giving Boehner's fax number for some reason (I forget why they felt we should be contacting Boehner) but their logic about using the fax made sense to me! I've long just e-mailed representatives with the message in the subject line (e.g. NO on HB 1234 or SUPPORT HB 1234) because I figured they could "tally" the input without having to open the email (plus they don't care about my reasons), but maybe they don't even check the emails! PLUS, I've found some representatives don't have a general "contact John @" type of email address! Faxing just makes more sense to me now.

And thanks about the Scott Olsen avatar. I am so impressed by that young man -- he made quite an impression on me. I hope he is doing well.
