3. Women because we're women and we live with it. vs. Men

Unless you're a male to female transgender person, or gone "undercover" as a female, it's can be very hard to relate to or understand.

And it blew my mind, because the guy got it. I never even thought of it in those terms.

Part of being progressive is wanting justice for all no? And being willing to listen and keep an open mind. Otherwise you're not any different from the right wing.

(BTW this applies to anyone, including white feminists who "Whitesplain" to people of color about racism and white privilege. I have seen some nasty comments from feminists about race, and this includes the feminists who think they're so ~edgy~ with their hipster racism. Changing the Kyriarchy benefits everyone, not just a select few. )

I don't know where you got that from, but it's not what I'm saying. I'm not of the school of feminism that thinks women are the kinder, more nurturing sex. I hate that POV. It's bullshit.



What I'm trying to say is: many times I've observed when women explain to men how being cat called at, or told to smile, or grabbed, it's usually waved way with "But it's just a complement! I would love it if women did that to me!" "He was just trying to be nice."

In other words, we're told it can't be as bad as we make it out to be, and we can't possibly know what we're talking about.


I am saying how someone's real life experiences effects them, should be given more weight, then someone who has just read about it, and has no idea what it's like.

The broad brush isn't helpful. Basically if I tell you that being cat called at is not a complement, and you hand wave it off, or tell me I'm wrong, who's right? It's not just me either.
My lumping all men together is not misandry. I don't claim to know about men, but my survival/success whatever you call it depends on knowing how men think about me for example.

2. I agree

with the article, but I also think Pab Sungenis makes a good point, although more in a more belligerent manner. Women are experts on women's experiences and men are experts on men's experiences. Unfortunately for people interested in sociology --which is what this is about-- individual's experiences are very different. Women and men have very strong disagreements on these experiences, and our own experiences create biases that compel us to say those with similar experiences are right and those with different experiences don't know what they are talking about.

True, very true. Gah, I'm bad at explaining things but I'll try: If person A tells me their being followed around the store and treated suspiciously because of their color, I don't sit there and try to explain why they're wrong:
Maybe you're just paranoid?
They're just doing their job!
Maybe you were acting suspiciously?

I believe them. This is so common for POC, hell I've seen it in action myself. And I've seen many many usually white people disbelieving them. Why? Because it hasn't happened to them/and or we've absorbed the message that white people Are the Authorities.
