http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/8127/"A very brave man has died. John Arthur, who with his husband forced the Teapublican government of Ohio to recognize their same-sex marriage, has passed away. He will be listed as Mr. Obergefells husband on the death certificate, and the two will be buried side by side.
You know, just like every other married couple. Because he was a warrior. Because he had to be a warrior.
RIP John Arthur. If there is any justice in this universe, your memory will be honored for many years to come."![]()

(556 posts)Calling someone a warrior who has never gone to war is just wrong. Same thing when football players talk about going into "battle"
No you're not... No you didn't... No one was trying to kill you... You didn't have to try to take someone's life... It just ain't so...
In no way does it demean whatever he accomplished in his life but that term just doesn't apply.

(14,040 posts)There aren't many statistics on the exact numbers but in 2011 30 people were killed for being LGBTQ. I suspect there are more that aren't reported in that manner.

Gay people get the shit beat out of us all the time for just being gay. It's still legal in most states to openly discriminate against us, fire us from our jobs, deny us housing...
No, we're not fighting a war at all.
There are many levels to war and killing someone or being killed doesn't always mean a war isn't being fought.

On an unrelated note, 28 folks died from lightning strikes last years as well. http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/fatalities12.htm
