Rachel Maddow Catches Rand Paul Plagiarizing Speech From Gattaca And Wikipedia (VIDEO)Author: Elisabeth Parker October 29, 2013 8:05 pm
Rachel Maddow on Rand Paul's "Gattaca" speech.
Poor Ken Cuccinelli cant seem to get a break these days in his doomed race for governor of the state of Virginia. Voters dont seem to like the GOP former front-runners stance on abortion, gay rights, or his support for the US government shutdown. Now, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) may have driven the final nail into Cuccinellis political coffin this week with a speech that was supposed to energize the base. Alas, Rachel Maddow found out that the senators speech was stolen from a Wikipedia entry on the 1997 dystopian sci-fi flick, Gattaca. Seriously, we are not kidding.
Rachel Maddow dishes on Rand Pauls Gattaca speech.
On October 28, Senator Rand Paul made an appearance with Ken Cuccinelli at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA to bring his star power to the struggling campaign. Too bad Rand Pauls star power was more like death star power. In a hackneyed attempt to praise Cuccinellis anti-choice views, our tea-bagging senators compared abortion to the Nazi-like eugenics practiced by the future, evil society from Gattaca. Alas for the Senator and for the VA attorney general, Rachel Maddow and her team found that Rand Paul wasnt just summarizing the plot from Gattaca. Our tea-bagging senator had actually lifted entire sentences from Wikipedia. What, are we back in high school now?
Heres Rachel Maddows video on Senator Rand Pauls Gattaca speech, so you can see for yourself.

(7,574 posts)Rachel had two other videos showing Rand Paul and other acts on plaigerism he has committed while giving speeches ... those speeches were also lifted for Wiki....
plus she also showed where other media sources were also picking up her story..including Paul's hometown newspaper
though there have been several news outlets trying to contact Paul and/or his office for an explanation ...no one from the office has responded to phone class or emails...

(2,315 posts)is quite detailed and contains all the quotes from both cribbed WikiPedia entries. Well worth reading with some damning quotes of its own.
Pauls office didnt respond to emails seeking comment about the speeches, or whether Paul wrote them himself...
Jonathan Bailey, a plagiarism and copyright consultant in New Orleans, said that Paul is essentially accused of stealing others ideas. After watching the recording of Pauls Liberty University speech, he said its pretty convincing that the words originated with Wikipedia.

(65,616 posts)"Gattaca is a 1997 science fiction film written and directed by Andrew Niccol. It stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, with Jude Law, Loren Dean, Ernest Borgnine, Gore Vidal, and Alan Arkin appearing in supporting roles. The film presents a biopunk vision of a future society driven by eugenics where potential children are selected through preimplantation genetic diagnosis to ensure they possess the best hereditary traits of their parents.[1] The film centers on Vincent Freeman, played by Hawke, who was conceived outside of the eugenics program and struggles to overcome genetic discrimination to realize his dream of traveling into space."
NOW before anyone says anything, let us remember the fruit does not fall far from the tree with this one;
Ron Paul's campaign add;
That's one of the better BLR soundbites I've seen. They captured him perfectly.
That one makes me laugh every time I see it! I think we now have a mental image of someone that agrees with everything in that video. A certain angry looking fb frumpy grump all sadz and ragequitty..

(21,115 posts)Well doesn't all his plagiarism prove WHO is the lazy one that is nothing but a burden on society? Here stands a man that is just too lazy to do some actual research and develop a few thoughts of his own...this proves how he gets all his "ideas". And HE complains about others being a burden on society....who is the worthless one now Rand Paul...on the govt dole aren't ya? Rand Paul is a low down...carpetbagging hypocrite, slimy ass snake in the grass, phony! I could not have much more disdain for a human being....IF that is what you really are...it's kind of hard to tell at this point.

(12,647 posts)He said, perhaps Rand is the one who wrote the Wikipedia entry on Gattaca.
Great laughs were had by all.

(10,893 posts)quit shooting down my dream GOP wingnut candidates! You already got my #1 candidate Herman Cain with the Pokemon song. Quit being too hard on Rand Paul; I want to see him get nominated and have his ass beat in the GE so that all of his annoying libertarian followers get demoralized.

(9,463 posts)had posted about this and I see that you have. But, more specifically, my ultimate intent was to pose the question: Seeing that rand paul is plagiarizing his speeches from Wikipedia (and probably other sources), is this his own MO or was he given the idea by one of his colleagues? In other words, who else may be doing this very thing?
I mean think about it, what a way to save time when they're already busy doing nothing when not taking kickbacks and bribes in myriad sneaky ways?

(41,959 posts)His knickers may be in a knot over Rachel's comments, but his defense of them was all about not having to use footnotes in a speech and giving the filmmakers credit. He had no idea what he was plagiarizing was the Wickipedia pages and not the films.
Father of our Country material, right there.
