WATERLOO, ON Responding to numerous patron complaints, the staff of the Empire Theatres Waterloo reportedly removed famed Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield after he would not stop heckling a screening of Gravity, the space thriller that has recently dominated the domestic box office.
Eyewitnesses reported that during last nights 9:15pm Real3D screening of Gravity, a lone man (later identified as retired ISS Commander Chris Hadfield) began muttering under his breath and chuckling to himself. By the 30-minute mark, Hadfield reportedly made numerous rude comments such as, Nice Soyuz procedure, Hollywood! and Oh yeah, because thats what hypoxia as caused by rapid cabin decompression looks like you idiots!.
It was the damndest thing, recounted Isabelle Tremblay. My boyfriend and I were like, what a jerk, and he went back to talk to him. But then he came back to our seats and he was like Im pretty sure that was that astronaut guy. You know, from the news. So we just let him go. I mean, what do you do? An astronaut probably gets George Clooneys character struggles a little better than I do.
Hadfields alleged berating of the film continued unabated. During one crucial and deathly silent scene involving Sandra Bullocks characters desperate attempt to reach her vessel and avoid dying in the void of space, the man who brought honour and fun to Canadian space exploration let out a long, piercing, and altogether perfect fart.

(18,497 posts)One of the reasons I would NEVER want to be a public figure.
You are fair game.
This is funny in places though.

(44,228 posts)It's especially funny because it would be so unlike Hadfield for this to happen.
Too bad so many are going to think it's real.

(5,075 posts)I don't go to movies much so maybe I was expecting too much but I didn't like it.
3D in IMAX didn't do much for me except acknowledge the technology.
After I realized the only plot was how many variants of Murphy's Law were they going to pack into two hours, the only question was whether she was going to land on land or in the water.
Good thing they had a couple big movie stars to draw the crowd.

But it's like that subtle Canadian satire. Sadly I think a lot of people are going to take it at face value, and a lot of people don't even know who this guy is. They hear astronaut behaving badly and they think of the cross-country diaper lady.

Gee guys, ya think someone who's sitting 230 miles above the earth really wants to sing the parts about Major Tom DYING IN SPACE?
