Rep. Michele Bachmann, a staunch opponent of Obamacare, says she's lost her insurance under the new law just like millions of other Americans.
Bachmann told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that she'll be forced to shop on the health exchange site, but refuses to do so until the glitches are worked out.
Bachmann told Blitzer on "The Situation Room" that her husband has serious health concerns that require quality insurance. Democratic strategist Paul Begala, who was also on the show, told Bachmann she should be thankful that Obama's healthcare law keeps insurance companies from discriminating against preexisting conditions.

"Are you kidding? Im not going to waste an hour on that thing," the Minnesota Republican said, referring to the continuous technical problems on the HealthCare.gov site.
<snip>
Accourding to Politico, Bachmann did not say how she ost the coverage and she didn't say she would sign up for a plan on the insurance exchange site by Dec. 15 to get coverage by Jan. 1.
<snip>
The health law technically requires congressional staff to buy insurance through the exchange, but it's up to each congressional office to determine who qualifies as official staff, Politico reported.
Yeah, I know - Newsmax, but at least it was reporting a prior Politico story. I love it, Especially when Paul Begala told her that because of the ACA, Marcus' "pre-existing condition" wouldn't keep him from being covered.

(115,669 posts)and well-run exchanges in the country (because we have a Dem governor and legislature). The web site works and thousands of people have signed up; she doesn't have to go to the federal site at all (it won't even let you in if you live in a state with its own exchange). I assume that as a resident of Minnesota she would be eligible to use its exchange to obtain reasonably-priced insurance. Instead she chooses to grandstand for political reasons - it wouldn't look good for her to have to tell the teabaggerati that she was able to get good, reasonably-priced ACA insurance on a state exchange that so many of her wingnut colleagues have rejected. (And I thought congresscritters would be keeping their employer-provided insurance anyhow.)

Otherwise, she can buy a policy from any company off the exchange, and those policies will be subject to the same protections as the ones on the exchange.

(2,315 posts)First, it was Republicans who introduced the idea that Members must move from the regular Federal Health Care cafeteria plan and be limited to plans under the new exchange.
Members and staff receive between 72 and 75% insurance premium subsidy from their employer (The US Government).
As others have previously pointed out, dear Marcus must be automatically covered regardless of current health if she elects to purchase insurance under the exchange. Why? Because the ACA prohibits limitations for pre-existing conditions.
But here is the most important fact Bachmann either ignores, or is too stupid to know:
From Timothy Jost at Health Affairs Blog...
DUH. So as soon as she "retires" next year (thank God, but not soon enough), she goes right back into the federal cafeteria plan pool and has that luxury for the rest of her life.
I assume she has brown eyes.
