Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI thought Sarah Palin was horribly ignorant before game change, but in GC she seems so much worse
than I had even imagined.
Wow.
How did the McCain people let that happen. Its such a colossal screwup I can really even put it into words.
She didnt know why North and South Korea werent the same country? She didnt have any idea what the Fed was? None at all? And they put her on the ticket? WTF?

Agree her lack of what we consider basic knowledge shocking. Don't understand. Her dad's a teacher, and she didn't know about Koreas? I blame public education for a lot of this kind of crap.

She is f'n batshit.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)...so vividly illustrated her narcissism.
It was always all about her. As Schmitt tried to tell her--every single concession speech
has been done by the presidential candidate. The running mate NEVER gives a concession
speech--and never has in the history of this country. Furthermore, it was explained to
Palin that this was a historic night for the country--electing its first African American
President--and McCain would only be giving a speech and it would be respectful and
somber.
After Schmitt told Palin very sternly that she would not give the speech--you thought
that had to be the end. I mean--the guy just told her WHY and explained the historical
significance of Obama's election and how every concession speech in the history
of this republic has been done this way!
What does she do? She waltzes into the next room, goes over Schmitt's head and tells
McCain that she'll be giving a speech!
OMG! Her narcissism knows absolutely no bounds.

(7,772 posts)Also really liked the scene when she whispers to Schmitt that she has no intention of returning to Alaska . . after he
spent limited campaign resources to poll her approval rating in Alaska as she had demanded.
Old and In the Way
(37,540 posts)I think she saw the concession speech more as an opportunity to tell the base (which, by this time, had pretty much given up on McCain, but were in love with Palin)..."hang in there, I'll be back in 2012, you betcha". She'd have spent 2 sentences on John McCain and the next 45 minutes talking about getting the Kenyan terrorist out of the WH. Her complete lack of self-reflection and unbridled hubris made her incapable of understanding why she wasn't going to get a chance to do the concession speech. A fascinating part of this story.

(31,811 posts)Her 'tears' on stage during the concession speech make a great deal of sense now.
Her arrogance post the election makes so much sense - she was 'bringing in the money' for the campaign, and getting people out to the speeches. She really truly believed it was all about her.

(61,694 posts)McCain's campaign was dull and his base wasn't excited about him being the nominee. She brought the pop-star quality, without even that much depth, to his campaign. They really were coming out to see the feisty, pretty hockey mom.
I think she wanted more gratitude from McCain's campaign. She wasn't willing to see that her ignorance and narcissism was why they lost the election.

(32,886 posts)She isn't dumb, only ignorant. If she had decided to hit the books and policy information provided to her by her handlers and really studied up, it could have been close. I dont think it would have saved them, but the electoral college could have been closer.

Maybe the most important element of this movie isn't that Sarah Palin is really, really, really, really dumb and emotionally unstable, its the fact that she is just plain mean. I think the surprising meanness of her disposition is why the reaction to her in the movie has been so harsh.
And the way she treated other people so badly, its probably why so many "sources" were willing to talk about the campaign leading to the book and move being made.

(24,411 posts)Who in the world would be so narcissistic and deranged--to believe that they
could go into an interview with Katie Couric during a global economic collapse
and not understand what the Fed is or what it does?
Doesn't that reveal so much about her mental state?
It didn't bother Palin that she knew NOTHING, and was willing to rebuff Nicole Wallace's
professional advice and help. Wallace only wanted Palin to look good. Wallace loved
McCain and wanted him to win.
Palin was just such a raging narcissist (and probably a psychopath too) that she was offended that she needed to be prepped for a national interview with Katie Couric.
I've worked in PR and had to prep a few CEOs--some of them were raging narcissists!--and I can't imagine any of them refusing to prep. It's just not done.
Sarah is a whole other level of disordered. Seriously--she's got some very major issues.

(21,925 posts)I had no idea she went in and out of catatonic states and closed herself off to those around her. I would have been even more frightened of the prospect of her coming close to the White House had I known of her acute mental problems.

Only the extent is shocking. The fact that she was/is ignorant was pretty obvious.

A good rule of thumb: when Republicans want to tell you what a huge mistake they made, and this mistake makes them look very careless and/or stupid, you should believe them.
If the interviewees in this book were portraying themselves as heroes, there would be reason to be skeptical. But they weren't. The book was a giant mea culpa.

(4,876 posts)says she was "the most qualified candidate" in an interview with Chris Wallace. His biggest complaint about the film?
"But it was the way he was portrayed by actor Ed Harris that seemed to most get under McCain's skin."
"I'm portrayed as using an exceeding amount of coarse language," the failed nominee explained. "I don't use course language very often. I have a larger vocabulary than that."
