even though his competitor had told them exactly what Madoff was doing and how Madoff was doing it.

Face it, federal agencies may have protected the consumer and the taxpayer at one time, but they now serve the industries they are supposed to regulate, and at the expense of the taxpayer, too,

There were some smaller fry in the mix although I agree in general his crimes were against monied interests.
