A man asked Rabbi Hillel to teach him the entire Torah, the five books of Moses, while standing on one foot.

And Hillel did.

"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That's the whole Torah", he said. "All the rest is commentary. Now go and study."

2. Isn't the concept of a gender binary itself intolerant?

We have a long way to go, even after we look at how far we have already come. We can appreciate our progress, but always remember the path goes on and on...

There's a website that claims there are 63 genders but that's a lot to try to keep up with. I normally think in terms of two and will refer to someone with whichever pronoun they identify with. Haven't encountered a situation where neither were appropriate, maybe I should memorize one of the several different gender-neutral pronoun lists and just use that at all times except for my school papers.

9. More and more people have already rejected the binary as both inaccurate and intolerant

Now the debate has moved to the value of the gender classification system itself. Gender is viewed as a spectrum and it is the boundaries created by classification that are being rejected.

Every rising generation finds ways to push progress in ways older generations would never have thought. What we consider absolutely inclusive and daringly fair today could be considered completely bigoted in one hundred years. Look at Margaret Sanger for instance. Her work with minority communities was considered bold and impetuous in her time. But today many of her views as well as her approach would be considered extremely bigoted.

5. Are you referring to the thread whose list contains a male-centered POV

and is taken from a conservative Christen website? Luminous Animal had a better one talking about not tying a woman's self-worth to a man's opinion but I feel that the message should be gender-neutral from the get go, no offense Luminous.

6. The message comes from 'unknown', and has been used in many places

and it's silly to freak out because this one image of it comes from a conservative Christian site. Maybe the message isn't gender neutral because the problem of people who grow up to see their worth in terms of others still happen mostly with women, and the problem of people who grow up to feel 'naturally superior' still happen mostly with men.

But the fact remains that the message was aimed at both genders, but you seem to have missed that.

it's telling a woman what to look for in a man and how a man should treat the woman he loves. More importantly the version that was posted isn't complete, most of the versions on the web talk about how woman is God's gift to man and isn't secular.

8. Again, I think the problems of one partner in a relationship treating the other unfairly

because of their gender are overwhelmingly in heterosexual relationships - and with the man thinking he should dominate the woman.

" most of the versions on the web talk about how woman is God's gift to man and isn't secular" - well, it's good, then, that we've seen a version that doesn't bring God into it.
