Thor Steinar is a German clothing brand manufactured by Thor Steinar Mediatex GmbH, a subsidiary of International Brands General Trading, a Dubai-based company.
In Germany, the brand is closely associated to neo-nazism by the Verfassungschutz of the state of Brandenburg.[1] In German media, the brand is most often discussed in the light of this association. Wearing Thor Steinar clothes is expressly forbidden in the Bundestag, in the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and of Saxony and in several football stadiums.

I was surfing the internet, generally looking at German stuff in anticipation of going there one day. I came across this phenomena and thought I would share just because it is odd. Any Germans or others who live there know how big a deal this is?
Here are some examples of their products, not what one usually associates with neo- Nazis
But here is there logo
And here are some far right legislators being removed from a local assembly for wearing the stuff:

(12,482 posts)Since the inception of Thor Steinar, the company has used two logos. Much of the controversy regarding the clothing label revolves around their first logo, featuring a combination of a *tiwaz rune and a *sowilo rune: the runes were so combined that a part of the logo became very similar to the insignia of the Schutzstaffel. The manufacturers of the Thor Steinar brand rejected this interpretation of the former logo.[3] Their second logo is a Gyfu rune, similar in appearance to aSaltire, and has not caused controversy.

(12,482 posts)How mainstream the clothing (even stylish in some cases) looks until you know the story and get a look at the logo. I have always associated neo nazis with combat boots with wite laces and shaved heads. Now they are going for the GQ look.

(49,212 posts)The woman in the foreground's shirt is in German and the guy behind her's shirt is in runes spelling out German words but the two guys to the side are wearing shirts where everything is written out in English.
I'm not even sure what that means or if that means anything (a lot of overseas clothing brands print shirts with usually very bad English on them, after all) but it's strange. You'd think a neo-Nazi label wouldn't use the language of the people who defeated the Nazis. Seems like that would be a sore point.
