President Obama is the Most Admired Man in the World for 6th Year in a Row

A new Gallup poll will be more bitter medicine for the Right. After a solid year of harping on Benghazi lies in an attempt to bring down both President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a new Gallup poll finds both ranked as the number one man and woman Americans most admire.
Every year since 1948, Gallup asks Americans to name the man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most. This year’s poll was conducted December 5-8, and for the 6th year in a row, Obama has been named the Most Admired Man.

Yes, that’s Most Admired Man, over Senator Ted Cruz and former President George Bush and empty chair man Clint Eastwood and the President won over Mitt Romney. Again. Of course, it’s a trend that the sitting President wins the Most Admired category, and even George W. Bush won it year after year when he was in office. But Hillary Clinton was often the Most Admired Woman while Bush was President.

Look, I actually DO admire the President. I admire Edward Snowden, too. But then I come into a thread like this and see everything boiled down to a simplistic polularity contest, as if it means something, turned into a simple-minded poke at people and DUers as if there's some great truth to be found in the poll. If there is, it's probably that, for Snowden to top this poll, most people in the country would have to be paying attention enough to know who Edward Snowden is.

You deliberately ignored that to get in a jab at me and other DUers based on nothing.

Tell me about unreal posts, why don't you?

It does not follow that the world knows a lot just because Barack Obama wins a "most admired poll" years in a row because 1. As the OP points out, the poll was not based on the world, but Americans, and 2. As the OP points out, the American President almost always wins it, even if he is George W. Bush, the worst President EVER.

But I'm not really surprised. Although President Obama has moved from left to center-left, it was a necessary move because that's where this country is - center-left.

Senator Warren is a fantastic Liberal, but she'll never win the presidency if she stays on the left of the political spectrum.

Sure, her seat in MA is hers for the losing, but the rest of the country is as wary of Liberals as it is of Rightwingers.

It's strange, though, that poll after poll shows that the country is pretty liberal when it comes to policies they'd like to see enacted, but at the same time, the American people are wary and distrustful of any meaningful change - even when it benefits them and theirs.

Don't ask me how to explain that disconnect because there's no plausible explanation for it, but based on how Americans tend to punish Democrats for any changes to improve their lives, the country, and our economy (the Omnibus Act of 1993, health care reform, the PPACA, etc.) and reward Republicans with more seats in Federal and State governments, it's becoming increasingly clear that the American electorate is suffering a severe case of political bi-polar disorder.

Where are most people getting their info? Most non-DUers who are not interested in politics get it from teevee or headlines dumped in their lap when they go to their yahoo mail, or in disconnected pieces picked up at work, or--wholesale lies hammered into their heads at the local mega-church.

So as much as democratic-liberal-progressive ideas resonate with most people, their idea of real politik in the public square is vague.

Hell, even DU regulars know we don't understand all of the issues---national and international situations, full contexts, historical backgrounds, impacts, ramifications and behind the scenes gamesmanship.

How much more confusing is it for people who have no concept that the blatant propaganda that insists it's news has been sold to the richest corporate repuke conservatives in the world?

Or people who know it's lies but don't know where to turn for truth? Most people I know have no concept of who owns the media corporations and how the reich wing cranks up social conservative fear and hate as a smokescreen for their criminality. They know something's wrong but are too overwhelmed and absorbed in their day to day lives to examine simplistic received "wisdom", like "I don't like those lazy poor people who could work but would rather mooch off me."

Most of the people I know have no concept of the vast right wing conspiracy (which Hilary got pilloried for naming decades ago) thriving in the highest levels of multi-national corporate profiteering.

Not to worry, Sid. This one's not your fault--lots of news organizations are terming this poll "most admired man in the world". But this poll featured American respondents only--no votes tallied from other countries. I'd say he'd still be way up in the running in a worldwide contest, but I suspect Nelson Mandela might win that vote this year, if it were actually held.
