The family feud and the fact that she's trailing by a distance are the reasons given.

Liz Cheney intends to withdraw from the Wyoming Republican Senate primary, according to two sources familiar with her plans, bringing an abrupt end to her unsteady challenge to the incumbent, Michael B. Enzi.
Ms. Cheney, 47, the former vice presidents elder daughter, is expected to drop out of the race this week, citing family reasons. She did not respond to emails and phone calls late Sunday.
Since declaring her candidacy in July against Mr. Enzi, a well-liked, three-term Senate veteran, Ms. Cheney not only never found traction but also wound up causing deep rifts among longtime friends and even within her own family.
Her task was always going to be difficult. Unlike some of the other sitting Republican senators who have been challenged in primaries in recent years, Mr. Enzi has a solidly conservative voting record and did not present the sort of vulnerabilities Ms. Cheney could exploit. But Ms. Cheney never was able to focus much on her opponent, spending much of her five-month candidacy fending off distractions to her campaign.
This is so delish!!!

Meanwhile Nicole Wallace on Morning JoeScum - I think more people admired Liz Cheney than her campaign.
Latest campaign statement - serious health problems in the family led to her withdrawal - please tell me the war criminal of a dick is about to croak.

Yes Liz Cheney and her entire family represent about the worst of what conservatives have to offer but progressives claim we are compassionate and tolerant.
It has come out that one of Liz' 3 daughters has been diagnosed with serious health issues. I have no reason to doubt that report.
If that is true I hope you will agree that we need to have some compassion for the family.

(24,523 posts)I detest Liz & her dick of a daddy, but I can't celebrate anyone's illness, especially if it is true that it involves one of her children.
She deserved to go down in a landslide, but whatever...she is down and out.

(14,914 posts)I would feel very compassionate, and I'm sure most here would as well. Perhaps you have read something more specific than I have, but so far all I have read is Liz' press release, and it was too vague to get a sense of what is really going on. When you say "it has come out...", is this the same information that you are referring to, or do you know something more? Unfortunately, Liz has established herself as a self serving liar, and that is putting it charitably, so anything she says is suspect.

(135,425 posts)She's quitting because over half of Wyoming HATES her. HATES. They think she is a hubris-laden asshole...and they've told her so.
I have no compassion for anyone who could throw their sibling under a bus like she did--if she could do that, why would I think she gives a crap about her children? Hell, if she cared about her kids, she wouldn't have dumped them in VA and made a long haul to Wyoming to pretend she lived there. She would have stayed with them.
Power corrupts, good thing she was short-circuited.
So, sorry, no compassion for Liz. When people do wicked and cruel things, they do not deserve compassion. She's a hateful, nasty person, and I'll save my compassion for good folk who get screwed over by the likes of her.

(135,425 posts)I cannot stand that monster of a human being. She used to wave her gun around in that make-work job her daddy invented for her over at State, and she scared the shit out of her employees. She is a crazy, nasty, bigoted, HORRIBLE individual, and I hope she feels at least half as shitty as she's made others feel down the years!
And there's even more humor in it all!!!!!
It's tragic, if you're inclined to see tragedy in the dashed hopes of political scions. Had Cheney just kept up her residence in northern Virginia -- had she not moved to Wyoming in 2012 -- she'd have been well positioned to run for the House seat held by retiring Rep. Frank Wolf. Instead, by managing to turn a 33-point poll deficit into a 51-point poll deficit simply by being herself, she's leaving behind nothing but a rich vein of liberal schadenfreude.

In a statement released on Monday, Liz Cheney cited serious health issues relating to her family for the decision to suspend her primary campaign against Senator Mike Enzi, the long-time Republican incumbent.
Unable to catch up in the polls with Enzi, a popular figure in Wyoming, Cheneys bid for a political career appeared doomed from the start. Her campaign will mostly be remembered for the ugly public spat that broke out with her sister over the issue of same-sex marriage.
Serious health issues have recently arisen in our family, and under the circumstances, I have decided to discontinue my campaign, Liz Cheney said in a statement released on Monday. "My children and their futures were the motivation for our campaign and their health and well-being will always be my overriding priority." She thanked the "thousands of people in Wyoming and all across the country who have supported my campaign", and added: "As a mother and a patriot, I know that the work of defending freedom and protecting liberty must continue for each generation."
For the Cheney family, the attempt to pass the conservative baton from one generation to the next has ended in embarrassing failure. But Liz Cheneys decision to end her primary challenge, first reported on CNN, might come as some relief to her father, who has watched as her campaign went from bad to worse.
Although Dick Cheney represented Wyomings sole congressional district the House of Representatives for five terms, his daughter had to relocate to the state from Virginia in 2012 and was cast as an outsider from the beginning. In August, Liz Cheney, who was born in Wisconsin, was fined $220 for purchasing an Wyoming fishing license for which she was not yet eligible.
