Christie Administration's Bridge Lane Closure Slowed Search for Missing 4-Year-Old, Says Official

http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2014/01/chris-christie-bridge-lane-closure-slowed-search-missing-child

Private messages released on Wednesday strongly suggest that top advisers to Republican Gov. Chris Christie orchestrated a massive traffic jam in the town of Fort Lee, New Jersey, as political retaliation against the city's Democratic mayor.

Calling the messages "astonishing" and "unconscionable," members of the Fort Lee City Council described the mid-September traffic disaster, caused when the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey unexpectedly closed two of the town's access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, as having dire consequences.

"There was a missing child that day. The police had trouble conducting that search because they were tied up directing traffic," says Jan Goldberg, a Fort Lee city councilman who works with local emergency personnel. Police found the missing child, a four-year-old. "But with the streets in the condition they were, I would venture to say that the search took longer," Goldberg says.

Ila Kasofsky, a Fort Lee city councilwoman, tells Mother Jones that ambulances and other emergency vehicles could not get through the gridlock. In the aftermath of the lane closures, Kasofsky says she spoke with a Fort Lee resident who couldn't get over the bridge to support her husband through major surgery. Another Fort Lee woman was unable to pick up her son after his dialysis session.

Republicans are all about themselves and what they want, if it means that other people suffer, it's just frosting on the cake.

in his basket to wash. first there's the story about his buddy who runs the halfway homes for convicted felons. The man who helped Christie get politically motivated. Christie was funneling the state inmate housing to this man and its being investigated. One of the little felons escaped the halfway house and killed his ex girlfriend. Then there's this little matter about some woman who was an aide to Christie who no longer works for him. Rumored affair. This little Bridge thingy is probably icing on the cake. Remember, Mitt the Snit turned him down as a V.P. Candidate on the Presidential ticket, when secretly moderates wanted him or anybody that would help them beat the half Black man. And the Romney campaign couldn't do anything with him. Trust me. They will not crown him Prince. I look for a silent smug play for the Whitehouse. You know some crazy shit. Like a Cantor/Thune ticket. Or Walker/Cantor. Eric Cantor wants to be somebody and is figuring out how to get there. Paul Ryan and his Ridiculous Budget got him more attention than he was used to. I don't think you will see his $1500 dollar a bottle drinking self on a campaign trail other than his own. He almost lost his congressional seat fooling with Romney.
