Chris Christie Urges Reporters To 'Take The Bat' To 76-Year-Old Widow
By David April 14, 2011 8:00 am

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) begged reporters Wednesday to "take the bat" to a 76-year-old lawmaker for collecting a pension and a paycheck.

Democratic state Sen. Loretta Weinberg, a widow, said she was forced to begin collecting her pension after her financial advisor invested all her savings in Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme.

"After a major financial setback resulting from my so-called 'Financial Advisor' investing all my money (including my IRA) with a man I never heard of (read: Bernie Madoff) a colleague suggested that I would most likely qualify for my pension," Weinberg wrote in a blog post.

"Though I never went in to public service to make money, I am grateful for this income at this time of my life, because of the situation Bernie Madoff created for me," she said.

Christie: “Take the bat out on” female legislator

It looks like Chris Christie’s persistent bully act may finally have gotten him in some real trouble.

In a news conference about pension policy Thursday, the New Jersey governor demanded the press go after one of his Democratic critics, state Sen. Loretta Weinberg. Or, as Christie put it: “Can you guys please take the bat out on her for once?”

In a statement, Weinberg, 76, expressed her displeasure:
''Considering I’ve devoted my entire legislative career to fighting for the rights of women, including battered women, I think his words continue to show the level of insensitivity and poor judgment that the governor has demonstrated on women’s issues since getting elected.

I think Maddow was on to something last night, and I suspect a whole lot more info is going to come out which shows a vendetta that Christie held against Weinberg.
