Zucker: GOP being run from Fox News headquarters

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — The chiefs of CNN and Fox News Channel are throwing shots at each other, each suggesting the other's network is essentially out of the news business.

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes struck first, saying in an interview published this week that it was interesting for CNN "to throw in the towel and announce they're out of the news business." It was a reference to CNN President Jeff Zucker's efforts to expand CNN's offerings beyond breaking news.

"We happen to be in the business, as opposed to some other fair and balanced network," Zucker responded at a news conference on Friday.

He suggested that Ailes' remarks, published in the Hollywood Reporter, were silly and an attempt to deflect attention from "The Loudest Voice in the Room," a book on Ailes and Fox by New York magazine writer Gabriel Sherman that is being published this month.

Zucker said he hadn't read the book, but that from what he heard it confirmed that "the Republican Party is being run out of News Corp. headquarters masquerading as a cable news channel."

...Ailes came out of the Nixon Administration, where he had his grand plan of creating a GOP-only TV network, GOPTV.

He got his chance when he teamed up with Rupert Murdoch - GOPTV is now Fox News.

...and I can only imagine what foreign visitors must think when they view these outlets and compare them against the CBC, BBC, or other foreign outlet. Some of them are propaganda machines, as well - but are they as insulting to the intelligence?

I don't even bother watching American mainstream TV anymore. No more CNN, ABC, NBC, C-BS, Fox, or MSN-BS. I get my news in other ways and other outlets and bring my salt shaker with me. With the American Alphabet Soup broadcasters, forget the shaker - I need a backpack full of cow salt licks.

When one considers how often Fox Noise has "reported" a story they knew to be false, either before "reporting"it or not correcting it after knowing it was false, and how often the erroneous story was then cited by Republican members of Congress in their talking points, one could be forgiven for concluding that the dialog for Republican members of Congress is written at the Fox "News" studios, and given to congressional Republicans to parrot once Ailes has approved it.

The news business right now has two principal players: Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart.
