Those who didn't think Christie was the GOP favorite for 2016

Need to be reminded that he was made chairman of the Republican Governor's Association. A job usually given to future presidential candidates. His popularity was supposed to help other Republican governors get reelected. Help with fundraising and put his face out in front of the voters of about half of the states that elected Republican governors to begin with. Here are a couple of stories of people gushing over Christie and his "celebrity" coming to the RGA annual convention. While he can't be counted out, make no mistake he was the number one draft pick for the Republicans. Not only will this hurt Christie and New Jersey, if Christie is shown to be the individual we all think he is it will have natinal ramifications in both fundraising and elections.

“People like him and he’s got one other thing going for him; it’s called celebrity and in case you haven’t noticed, that’s a big darn deal in America today,” Kasich said, calling Christie a “friend,” a “buddy” and a “big teddy bear.

Other Christie backers on the committee pointed to his ever-growing star power, arguing that his media profile and impressive fundraising acumen would be serious boons for the committee in a busy election year.

Next year's midterm elections feature 36 gubernatorial contests, including three potentially competitive races in the early presidential caucus and primary states of Iowa, South Carolina and Florida. The RGA chairman will be a familiar face on television screens across the country and a constant point of contact for major donors. A successful 2014 cycle would be a gleaming resume point heading into the 2016 presidential cycle, which begins in earnest the moment polls close next November.
