If today is an average day, some 277 Americans will be shot by a gun. And 84 of those shot will die.

The story will repeat itself tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and on and on and on.

Help stop this slaughter.

Please call, write, email, or FAX your representatives in Washington, D.C. and tell them to support common sense gun control. Do it today. And do it again next week. And do it again every week after that until they get the message.

Back in the spring, a lobbyist for an NRA chartered organization in Wisconsin said gun-rights proponents need only wait-out the “Connecticut effect” before they could once again start passing laws to loosen restrictions on guns. That lobbyist felt certain we would eventually forget what happened at Sandy Hook, and then any interest in common sense gun laws would vaporize.

We need to let that lobbyist and the NRA know that this time is different. This time we are not going away. We are not going to forget Sandy Hook, or Aurora, or Columbine, or Virginia Tech, or Tucson, or the 100,000 Americans who are either killed or wounded by guns each year.

Please help slow this daily carnage. Call, write, email, or FAX your representatives in Washington, D.C. and tell them to support common sense gun controls. Do it today. And do it again next week. And then every week after that until they get the message.

Less than 1% of all gun owners do bad things with them, there are over 200 million guns in the US, 50 states and over 350 million people.

And this is all you could find?

People pull the trigger to guns but it is the gun that delivers the fatal blow so yes, guns do kill.

Not every gun owner needs to be a bad person for us to recognize that there is a serious problem with gun violence in this country.

Nice attempt to try to paint me as a bigot by suggesting I hold views on Muslims that I never expressed, you are completely wrong but I am sure it made you feel better to try to paint me as a bigot.

It was about methods, not what you thought about Muslims.

The same method applies.

Are there problems we need to fix? Yep. Is part of fixing them thinking gun owners are all wack out nut job gun humpers and we need to only allow people in government and rich folks to have guns? Nope.

MOST a huge majority of gun owners are responsible. That is just a fact. Over 45 million of them - and if you let the minority color how you see the majority I call that bigotry.

It is not about the personal qualities of every person that owns a gun, it is about the fact that people are dropping dead by the thousands and we can not ignore the problem just because some people would prefer we don't talk about the facts.

29. I don't have all the answers, but we can start with getting rid of some of the NRA written laws

Getting rid of Stand Your Ground, holding gun owners legally accountable for all "accidental" shootings, putting additional safety regulations in place to reduce the deadly potential of newly manufactured weapons, mandatory licensing which includes training and regular competency tests, those are a few things we could do to reduce gun violence.

putting additional safety regulations in place to reduce the deadly potential of newly manufactured weapons,

Unsure what you mean here.

I have advocated for licenses for a long time, should they be like drivers licenses? You will fund and perform these competency tests and how often should this be done?

33. Those taking the exams will fund them with fees

We can put regulations in place to limit the power and rate of fire of newly manufactured weapons, you won't like it but it should be done.

As far as the exams go it should require a basic knowledge about the danger that guns pose as well as proof of gun handling and shooting competency. The people who take the exam can pay a fee to fund it just as I had to pay a fee for my drivers license exam.

52. Sure, yeah. However, every single murder, ever, in history had one thing in common.

A murderer, a person.

Treat the person, you end all murders.

Treat the weapon, you send the murderer to find another means-- at the expense of the majority of gun owners who would like to enjoy the rights they have in this country.

It's not rocket science.

unlike almost anything else in society, guns are only designed to kill.

And, still ahead of constitutionally protected firearms, these things make killing faster and easier:

Mass arson.

Poison gas.

Poisoning water.

Home made bombs.

I could go on but don't need to except for with a few of my special friends.

Firearms mass murders don't even make one of the top ten list of mass murders committed in the history of humankind.

not only that, a gun is designed to kill.

you know this, it's why you are attempting to sway GD hosts behind the scenes to lock any and all gun posts.

Skinner has given the hosts a great deal of leeway, if you read the Ask the Admins forum it is quite clear that he is not enforcing as strict of limits as you are trying to enforce.

Sat Jan 11, 2014, 06:34 PM

Murder-suicide: no big deal
Kids shooting themselves or other kids: no big deal
Idiots messing around with a gun and shooting an innocent neighbor: no big deal
Men murdering their wives and kids: no big deal
Mothers shooting their own children: no big deal

And on and on and on

Then the same old tired shit about knives and cars. If you could read even a quarter of this post and not feel even the SLIGHTEST bit of horror, dismay, shock or sadness, then you have no compassion or empathy whatsoever. It is rife with evil and sadness and grief and your first reaction is to defend your guns?

Fucking sick.

And as you all run over here to blurt out your NRA talking points, please, I beg of you, just for one moment, pick a three inch vertical space of this post and read it again. Think about the families, the lives that have been ruined by those little hunks of metal. And imagine, is there SOME WAY we can prevent these horrible crimes from happening all over our country EVERY DAMN DAY? Just stop and allow yourself to think about it for one whole minute.

To those who cannot even accomplish this, please don't waste any time with me as I refuse to answer your posts. This is madness and it must END.

Boy have I gotta lotta videos of armed self-defense. From all over, too! Now, I'll be willing to post a Warning! Graphic Content! to the posts, but there are enough from "Across the Nation and Around the World" to make it a re-e-e-ally big shoe -- oh! I mean newz. And by golly, it happens in America everyday, too.

Hosts of GD note: dowm thread, the usual boil-lancing hatred has squirted from the usual Local, hyped-up police blotter OPs that has ALWAYS plagued GD. Good job, guys.

As a matter of courtesy, please tell Skinner et all that you are junking the TOS re guns so that all GD may get ready for:

More and more of the same.
