nuclear plants near water systems and/or on or near fault lines

(theHandpuppet graciously allowed me to steal this very important list)

To anyone blaming the Charleston catastrophe on just a bunch of dumb rednecks who vote against their own self interests, maybe some of the holier-than-thous could ponder this:

Diablo Canyon Power Plant: built along the Pacific and near two major earthquake faults. Multiple citations for safety issues.
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station: built along the Pacific with an active fault just 5 miles offshore. Numerous safety violations.
The Indian Point Energy Center: lies near a fault line 35 miles north of Manhattan
The Atlanta-based Southern Electric Co. has reviewed seismic activity in the area that could impact the Wayneboro, Ga., site where it has two operating reactors and hopes to build two more. Within 85 miles of the Charleston, SC fault.
The Browns Ferry plant, which is located near Athens, Ala: potential safety problem due to its proximity to the New Madrid fault.
Arkansas' only nuclear plant is located about 150 miles away from the New Madrid fault zone.
The Crystal River 3 Nuclear Power Plant, also simply called the Crystal River Nuclear Plant, located in Crystal River, Florida. Closed due to structural defects in the containment dome.
The Savannah River Site (SRS) is a nuclear reservation in the United States in the state of South Carolina, located on land in Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell Counties adjacent to the Savannah River, 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Augusta, Georgia. Currently none of the reactors on-site are operating (see list of nuclear reactors), although two of the reactor buildings are being used to consolidate and store nuclear materials. SRS is also home to the Savannah River National Laboratory and the USA's only operating radiochemical separations facility.
22 Sept 2013: SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – The case over the state's decision to approve water rights for the proposed Green River Nuclear Power Plant starts this week. HEAL Utah is the group appealing the state’s decision claiming there is not enough water in the state as is and if a nuclear plant is built there will be even less.

The three largest plants in the U.S. are located in Arizona. See where the others are located and the megawatts of electricity each produces.

In the middle of a desert cooled by reclaimed water from Phoenix.
