This one is from a multi-cover issue in which there's an article on women on tv.
And if it looks familiar, that's not a surprise, because they did it in another multi-cover issue as well.
(These are just two examples of the whitewashing of women of color. In case anyone thinks it's rare.)

(1,115 posts)I find both of the B&W photographs to be more striking and the women pictured in them to be extraordinarily beautiful. I prefer the B&W photographs to the color ones but it is despicable if they're doing this in an attempt to whitewash their covers. Blah. Puke.

I wish I could find the examples where it shows the original photo vs. the published version. These are too easy to dismiss with claims that it's lighting and not intentional.

(89,239 posts)at first. i thought you were comparing how they could have put the women of color on and it would look good also.
it was when i looked to see who they were that i saw it was the same women but made to look far lighter.

(594 posts)Herself..have you taken a closer look at Beyoncé lately? Her hair gets blonder by the day, eyes lighter and skin tone? Let's not get there..she's gotten lighter day by day.. Gone are those days where Beyoncé looked a woman of color

I don't deny that it happens though.
In comparison, here she is with family members...

(20,142 posts)Dave Letterman asked Mindy about it and she said she was very happy with it. I looked up "Elle magazine covers" and it was the only black and white - ever. But they have had other women of color like Kerry Washington, in color.

(44,572 posts)or there aren't enough studio or fashion photographers who know how to light people who are darker than paper bags.
That is, they have no idea how to light WOMEN who are darker than a paper bag:
