I've got a wonderful feeling that everything's gonna be OK.

Aristus
(66,307 posts)It was filmed in rural, mountainous Arizona. Every time I watch it, I just shake my head that anyone involved in making the film could expect people familiar with flat, monotonous Oklahoma to accept the filming locale as a believable substitute for the real thing.

(18,402 posts)Just kidding. I love old musicals, but Oklahoma is not one of my faves. Now, if you give me a chance to watch Pal Joey or Guys and Dolls, I'd jump at it.
OK (no pun): here's a true story about Oklahoma. Many years ago a very wonderful and brilliant man we knew died, far too young. We were all so incredibly sad. There was a memorial service, and the person who delivered the eulogy decided, for some deluded reason, to end with the lyrics to the song "Oklahoma" (James was originally from that state). We all sat there in disbelief as this person, a very scholarly individual, very slowly, in a grave spoken tone, recited:
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping dowon the plain ...
We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand
And when we say
Yeow! A-YIP-I-O-EE-AY
Were only saying, "You're doing fine Oklahoma,
Oklahoma OK"
We grew increasingly stunned. We were burying our faces in our sleeves to keep from laughing. We've never forgotten it. Afterwards, we all vowed that we needed to choose a song to include in our wills in case we were killed and this person had to give our eulogy. A friend picked "It's a Puzzlement," from The King and I.
