Dem Lawmaker: Christie Won't Face Legislature's Wrath Because 'This Place Is Old School'

A Democratic lawmaker in New Jersey believes the state's history of bipartisan deal-making and Chris Christie's ability to exploit it will insulate the embattled governor from legislative scrutiny.

The Washington Post noted Tuesday that even Christie's Democrats adversaries "acknowledged that he is unlikely to face wrath from a legislature known for its clubby cross-party dealings."

State Sen. Ronald Rice (D) explained.

“Christie knows how to exploit power and the way some of the legislators are controlled,” Rice told the Post. “This place is old school. It’s about power and big money, and he hasn’t shaken that up.”

This week has brought attention to Christie's Democratic allies and how their role in the investigation into politically motivated lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

Christie's Democratic Ally Worries Bridge Scandal Will Become 'Distraction'

One of Chris Christie's Democratic allies in the New Jersey legislature urged his colleagues Tuesday to not be distracted by the George Washington Bridge scandal, an admonition that was met reportedly met with silence.

New Jersey State Sen. President Steve Sweeney (D) made a reference to the media attention generated by the scandal.

"The headlines in the recent press cannot become a distraction," Sweeney said in remarks on the senate floor, according to reporter Matt Katz.

Katz noted that Sweeney did not receive applause for the remark.

The investigation into the politically motivated lane closures on the bridge has exposed a divide among New Jersey Democrats. State Sen. Richard Codey (D) said Monday that "Democratic power brokers" in the state were trying to halt the probe, but the newly sworn-in speaker of the state Assembly, Democrat Vincent Prieto, shot that down.

And he didn't support Buono - well - we both know why . . . anyhoooooo - It will be a cold day in hell before I vote for him as Governor.

Oh - and I don't believe in hell - so I guess that's really really how set I am that I will not support him in a gubernatorial bid.

Corruption! Bi-partisan in that a good number of each party's legislators are owned by the same people. Nothing holds alliances together like being literal "Partners in Crime".

It's the old adage: You hang together or you surely all hang separately ...
