Gaaagh!! The conventional scandal wisdom burns

Over and over and over and over...

Pundits dishing up conventional wisdom on scandals that makes no sense.

Christie would have done better to come clean early on and get it behind him.

WTF?

It would not, in fact, have benefited Chris Christie to have gone on TV in December to say, "I approved and implemented a criminal plan to terrorize the citizenry for the purpose of steering public contracting money to my political cronies."

If that is what needs to be disclosed, how would that disclosure have helped Christie??? How would that have knocked the story off the front page?

Has it ever occurred to one of these bozos that the "full disclosure" approach to scandals doesn't work if there is something bad to disclose?

Since all these assholes do is spin they think the world is made of spin and that all scandals are pure public relations problems

Very true. It seems probable that most cover-ups work. cthulu2016 Jan 2014 #2

If you think you can get away with keeping a scandal secret, bearing no political cost whatsoever certainly beats anything gained by an early confession. We only find out when the idea that something could be kept secret turns out to be a miscalculation.

Plus, if one has loyal followers who will always believe that anything bad said about you is a cooked-up smear, you can hold onto most of that base by forever denying wrong-doing. This is especially true if you're a Republican and the convenient enemy to blame is that damned librul media.
