Right now, Mitt WOULD do better against Hillary than any other available Repub. He could force Hillary to the left, denounce as her a hypocritical undercover corporatist, destabilize her base, and pick off enough of the moderates and independents -- provided that he show his tax returns, of course.

Christie has done a good job of cultivating the right with his bullying of the left, and of cultivating the left with his moderate bipartisanship scam. But Bridge(t)-Gate has blown his cover: it turns out that his idea of moderation is "My way or the highway," and that his idea of bipartisanship is "My way or I'll CLOSE your highway." But even if that weren't the case, the Rethug establishment doesn't want him because it is now abundantly clear that he would never be under their control.
