(4,185 posts)I can't imagine that's the fix for all, but certainly those who wish to re-build or begin their lives.
I remember walking the streets one night in Salt Lake. Don't take this the wrong way, but my party and I were kind of taken aback by the well spokenness and rather cleanliness of the homeless. Even to the degree that all four or so that we came across that night (all men) were wearing collared shirts. I don't mean that in any derogatory way. But it was a point of conversation for us.
Perhaps because of the strict alcohol laws they have a head start on the solutions to homelessness and poverty.

(4,458 posts)if they want to have Any chance at winning anything in Nov--it's predictable and all Political.
However it neither explains nor does it "forgive" the suffering, pain, death, hunger and insecurities their Actions and Failures to act has caused for Millions of Americans-kids, veterans, women, elderly, the sick, minorities, LBGT etc. For Years and Political Games 99% of Congress in some degree collectively intentionally and for corporate benefit-FAILED to address these matters in the most immediate and long term past.
Wall Street/Third Way/Blue Dog Dems are gonna be "generously and selflessly compassionately competitive" on this and more very soon, imo.
They don't want us to remember any of the Outrageous Demeaning Statements made, their Obstruction and Bad Votes over the past Decade--Please, just--look over here and what we're doing Now ahead of the Primaries! GOP is good, compassionate, caring and Here to Rescue y'all now! Yea! Vote for Us-We're the GOOD guys! See?
I'm not buying any sincerity they try to inject into this problem and while, yes-people are getting help Now--the bigger question is: Do "they" really plan to sustain these programs After the Nov Election?

(3,891 posts)Does that mean we have to oppose this because Republicans are doing it? Does that mean we now in the modern world of party purity have to demand that the homeless stay homeless just to oppose republicans? I sincerely hope not, but I'm not sure.

(16,296 posts)I rejoice in it and applaud the Republicans for doing it. No one is happier than this ,a true-blue Democrat, who is seeing the homeless being cared for or the poor being sheltered against the winds of life. My prayer is that someday both parties become one dedicated to the principles of compassion, care, and advancing welfare of all people.
