What is up with the poor choices for sports venues this year?

Super Bowl in New York? In February?

And the Olympics in Sochi, right next door to countless pissed off terrorists?

I know money is the driving force behind everything in this world...but what a bunch of idiots.

Football is meant to be played in the cold. I love the idea of it being up North, and I hope they get a bit of snow. I think it makes for a better game to watch.

So it should never be scheduled for a place which might be the stadium of a team in the game. Not how it works.
And a warm site would give an advantage to warm weather teams.

Dallas a few years ago couldnt get everyone to the game because ice on runways of the airports.

If a blizzard were to hit during a Super Bowl, it lead to major problems and present serious safety concerns.

We always sat next to a retired Army Colonel who was always "nipping" at his flask. He always started out the game OK, but usually feel asleep on my grandfathers shoulder by the 4th quarter. Seems they served together in WWI and they looked out after each other. Plus the Colonel was the source of the tickets.

a couple years in advance? If it snows, power goes out or something else major disrupts the game, there will be questions. It will be just another thing the Christie administration will be investigated for. Knowing NJ politics growing up, I'm sure there was some "arm twisting" to select NJ.

Next year will be in AZ. 2016 in Miami or the 49ers stadium. 2017 in the loser of the 2016 bid, or Houston, so even 3 years from now, they have it narrowed down to 3 choices.

I think snow would be great, its where football is at its best. As for power going out, I've been told that sometimes happens in southern climates as well. . . .

Up until this year, the Superbowl has never been played in Cold weather stadiums, unless there was a dome. I'll admit that Seattle doesn't get that cold, Its certainly not as cold as New York, but compared to Miami, and Phoenix, its pretty cold.

If I was in charge of the NFL, I would not schedule any future super bowls in a cold climate until this game is over. I would want to see how it worked out, and what the fans thought. I think if this is a success, you will see the superbowl spread around a bit, and maybe Seattle could get a bid.

where they play outdoors in subzero temperatures--and wear short sleeves (to show how crazy they are).

Here was the forecast for the Packers-49ers wildcard game a few weeks ago:

The Packers-49ers NFC wild-card playoff game won’t be the coldest Packers game at Lambeau Field, but it’ll join the ranks. The official National Weather Service forecast is calling for game-time high temperature of near 2 degrees, dropping to minus 18 later in the evening, said meteorologist Roy Eckburg.

At mid-game, “It’ll probably be minus 3 or minus 4, that’d be my guess,” Eckburg said.

Wind speeds will be from 10 to 15 mph, with occasional gusts above that, Eckburg predicted. That means it’ll feel like minus 15 or minus 20 at the start of the game, and minus 20 to minus 25 well before the 2-minute warning.

The Packers and Mills Fleet Farm, one of their major sponsors, will distribute 70,000 hand warmers to fans headed to the outdoor seating areas of the game, with two going to each ticket holder.

a new stadium for the BILLIONAIRE owners to increase the worth of their teams so that they can turn a larger profit.

Mpls. can expect the contest in 2018, 19 or 20 for building a new taxpayer funded edifice for owner Zygi Wilf who ironically is under investigation for his financial dealings in his home state of New Jersey.

in 1992 I knew some guys who made up a couple of tshirts to sell. They ended up getting a summons by the NFL stop and desist order for violating NFL merchandise policy. The funny thing is, they only had two gag shirts. One of them said "No golf, no sun, no sand, no sun, what divkhead thought of this?"

Personally, I hope it snows during the game, not too much before so everybody can get there.

What the NFL should do is to rotate the Superbowl between Miami, New Orleans, San Diego, and maybe rotating Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix.

Football is a lot more fun in bad weather. When I played, I loved playing in the rain and snow. With Football weather is part of the game, without it games become sterile and boring. That's why I hate watching games in dome stadiums.

Remember a few years ago when it was Indiagoddamnnapolis? In February? And people had to get hotels in Ohio or some crap and drive in because lord knows Indianapolis isn't the biggest tourist mecca ever? You get one Super Bowl for a new stadium even if nobody wants to go to your city and the weather is terrible. [s]New York[/s] New Jersey certainly was going to get one because there's a new stadium and there are hotels and a reasonable airport the other necessary infrastructure. They probably won't make the regular rotation because they love the sunny venues for the non-reward years and because it's an expensive pain in the ass.

Miami appears to have dropped out of the regular rotation because their venue is subpar, it might be wishful thinking on my part but the nice weather + venue equation might put [s]San Francisco[/s] Santa Clara in the regular rotation after their reward year in Super Bowl 50 if that one goes well.
