"Florida School Bars Adult Student From Graduating for Performing in Gay Porn Film"

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/01/20/florida-school-bars-adult-student-from-graduating-for-performing-in-gay-porn-film/

An 18-year-old Florida high school student was prevented from graduating after classmates and school officials discovered the student had performed in a gay porno movie, the Daily Dot reported on Monday.

The student, who has asked to be identified by his performing name, Noel, was suspended for 10 days and accused of causing a “campus disturbance” by administrators at Cocoa High School, who learned of his film role for the adult site SeanCody.com after other students bullied him over it. The suspension led to the student’s “automatic failure” in his classes, stopping him from graduating in June.

<snip>

The Gaily Grind reported that the student confirmed his suspension on Facebook, writing, “Coming back to Cocoa isn’t the best for me but bringing justice to the disciplinary system and discrimination of the administration has not slipped my mind either.” The Grind also confirmed that several students skipped their 7th period class on Friday in support of Noel. Other supporters have denounced the school’s decision, arguing that since he is of legal age, the school had no right to sanction him for participating in a legally-made adult film.

“What if he smokes when he’s away school? Would he be suspended for that too?” one person wrote on the school’s Facebook page. “The principal has No right to do this. Get the ACLU involved. Shame on the principal. Unless the guy films porn in your school, get out of his sex life and his career.”

3. According to the article, the school became aware of his film activity after he was bullied over it.

Why aren't the bullies the ones being suspended? This makes no sense at all. Nobody is saying he did anything illegal. I don't see any grounds for suspension, and I hope he sues.

regardless of sexual orientation. I'm not overcome by tears because of this considering that it's a school.

6. and what if he had been suspended for simply having gay sex

as opposed to having gay sex and being videoed for money? Or what if the school suspended him for working in an adult bookstore, or an abortion clinic? I think you might want to think twice before letting public schools decide what is and isn't proper employment for its adult students.

You're missing the point.

As a legal adult he has the right to do as he pleases off campus and in any non-school related activity.

9. He's 18 years old, it's perfectly legal, and it's a public school...

If it were a private school, it would be different. But you don't forfeit your right to a public K-12 education by participating in perfectly legal activities away from campus. I hope he sues the shit out of the school district and they not only have to give him his diploma, but pay for his college education as well.

They should be dealing with the bullying, not suspending him for creating a disturbance by being bullied.

11. Honestly, 18 year old adults shouldn't be in high school.

And 16 year olds shouldn't be driving to school.

Nevertheless, this sounds like it was all about the "gay" porn and the bullying.

The kid should be able to graduate, and the bullies should be in trouble.

He's probably not the only one making porn in that school, but he may be the only one making making gay male porn.

If anyone asked me, I'd get rid of "kindergarten" and start first grade at four years old.

I got the hell out of high school as quick as I could because of the bullying, and so did my sister. For me it was before the GED, but I got accepted to college and my parents and school administrators signed off on it. My sister passed the GED and went to college too.

13. It depends on his date of birth

In Florida, if your birthday is after September 1, you have to wait till the year you turn 7 to start school. So he probably has a lot of 18-year-old classmates.

12. The school has no business interfering in the student's private life.

Unless the video was shot on school property, the school has no business getting involved with this student's personal life.

I wonder if the bullies got in trouble for bullying?
