http://www.democraticunderground.com/10133480I'm wrapping up my second term and can't be back again but I will probably try and volunteer again towards the end of the year.
It's a tough gig, no doubt... It can weigh down on you seeing all the crazy ass trolls, there are far more then I ever thought. I do suggest that you give it a try though and see what it's all about. On the bright side, you will get to know some DU'ers you didn't as well as do some good for the site. Everyone should try it at least once.

My Lounge hosting gig is almost up so I should have some free time on my hands.
Okay, I'm only half joking.

(21,656 posts)For several weeks during my two terms, I did nothing... I had reached a point where I thought I saw a troll and was getting no support where I thought there should be plenty and I was very frustrated... Wicked frustrated... But the fact is that the consensus was that there was not enough evidence to give a pizza and so I stopped participating for a bit. Not a single member of MIRT had anything to say for my choice that was not supportive of my voluntary hiatus...
As I said... It is not and easy gig...
The fact is, is that you will not always be correct in thinking someone is a troll... And you will have to accept that... As well you will sometimes vote to leave someone who is a troll because there is not enough evidence... You have to give the benefit of the doubt... Very hard.
The issue is not the time you put in... That is up to you and nobody will judge... the issue that makes it a tough job is the decisions you make... or don't.
