Don't Look Now, But NYC Seems to Have Fake Corporate School "Reform" On the Run At Long Last.

>>>>Daniel Dromm's immediate priorities as the City Council's newly appointed education committee chair reflect the tone of the de Blasio administration: More pre-K, less testing, and a focus on progressive education.

In an interview with Capital on Wednesday afternoon after his appointment, Dromm, a close ally of Melissa Mark-Viverito and a longtime opponent of the Bloomberg administration's education policies, said his philosophy aligns with school chancellor Carmen Fariña's in part because they are both longtime educators.

"During the Bloomberg administration we lost the emphasis on dealing with the whole child, the child being more than just test scores," he said.
Dromm, a member of the Council representing Jackson Heights and Elmhurst since 2009, was a longtime teacher and day care center director.

His appointment was widely expected; last week, before he was appointed, Dromm invited his colleagues in the Council to a hearing on the priorities of education activists opposed to Bloomberg's policies.

DiBlasio ( Knock me over w. a feather!) is turning out to be the real deal. Picked a chancellor who is neither a sleaze ( Klein) nor hack ( Walcutt) and boasts lifelong ed professional Carmen Farina.

Now diBlasio's engineering enabled the accession to City Council Ed committee chairmanship of Councilmember Danny Dromm... a ferocious critic of corporate contamination and a retired ps TEACHER for 25 yrs.

Yes. An actual TEACHER. Chairing the ED COMMITTEE. What a novel idea.

God ... Obama and Duncan must be soooooooo confused. Are they smart enough to shut up, pay attention and *learn*? Probably not.

Meanwhile, it seems the big $$$ interests are looking to Albany, now. Having decided that diBlasio can't be bought, they're hoping to hang on to their spots on the feeding trough by buying pieces of Cuomo, Inc.

Good stuff is happening here but this is a looooong way from being over. I hope the rest of the country is watching. NYC always needs an audience to really *smoke*. So PAY ATTENTION, already.

Here's Danny Dromm, new Ed Chairman:
