Please don't expect anything but a *canned* speech from Cathy McMorris-Rodgers. She isn't known for her intellectual curiosity--because her fundamentalist religiosity determines her public policies. It isn't just that she graduated from an unaccredited Bible college, but that she obediently complies with the GOP's dangerous slide toward *theocracy*.
McMorris Rodgers *always* (mutely and demurely) stands behind Boehner in *every* photo op, so, IMHO, she should be called "BB" (Behind Boehner). "BB" is in lock step with the rest of the Know Nothing Bible Thumpers who dominate the GOP. McMorris-Rodgers has been vehemently anti-woman and pro-plutocrat with her *extremist* voting record and I'm *ashamed* that she is my congresswoman. I was *appalled* to be stuck writing "BB" *numerous* letters when she repeatedly voted against the Violence Against Women Act. What kind of woman votes against the Violence Against Women Act????
McMorris-Rodgers was selected and 'groomed' by white male "Christian" fundamentalist GOP leaders because she's a conformist "Biblical wife" and..drum roll...she *Qualifies* as a 'good woman' because she was a "V-word" bride! Yes, sad to say, in the minds of the GOP "Christian" leadership, women should be completely "pure" (meaning zero sexual experience) or they're worthless. For Huckabee et al., single women shouldn't have birth control because they should be 'pure as the driven snow'.
A "Biblical wife" is subservient to males, so "BB" stands mutely behind Boehner year after year. Now, when they can't think of a *male* to give the speech, they finally tell "BB" to SPEAK! "BB" doesn't have a mind of her own--she's a fundamentalist robot. Her speech will rage against "Obamacare" even though the Washington state exchanges are *very* popular because *many* people in eastern Washington have had NO HEALTHCARE. McMorris Rodgers would take away her own constituents' health care if she could and that's why we need to find a strong Dem candidate to run against "BB".
Even though over 2/3 of the low income Spokane women who go to Planned Parenthood for basic care have had no access to any other medical care, "BB" McMorris-Rodgers has been rabidly opposed to Planned Parenthood. The Spokane PP was *bombed* years ago and there are always sign-waving, Bible verse spouting "Christian" pickets. These pickets block the sidewalk and interfere with access to PP They are all PURE WHITE Republicans--I *never* saw a person of color protesting at the Spokane Planned Parenthood.
FWIW, when I was volunteering at the Spokane PP, the *only* way I got those angry white "Christians" to stop blocking the sidewalk was when I said that if they are really "pro life", each of them should adopt a "brown child" and put that child through college. These "Christians" immediately recoiled in horror at the very idea of raising a "brown child" and that's how I got them to back off so I could enter PP. These "pro life" protesters are anti-sexual freedom--which they equate with being "pro life." These Pure White PP protesters have*zero* empathy for what happens to unplanned, unwanted children--unless they are Ultra White Babies that can be adopted by a "Biblical" family.
There is a reason Utah has the highest porn and antidepressant usage--and Spokane politics have been dominated by Right Wingers just as extreme as anyone in nearby Idaho. The Mullah-like attitudes and policies of people like "BB" McMorris-Rodgers are genuinely dangerous to our basic liberties. "BB" is a GOP "Trojan horse"--she's dangerous precisely because she looks so demure. "BB" is *wholly owned* by the reactionary forces dominating the GOP-controlled House. The GOP has big plans for "BB" because they know she is obedient and unquestioning.
McMorris-Rodgers always says she doesn't want "Big Government"--except that she supports complete government control over women's bodies and their sexuality. There really isn't anything more offensive than a misogynistic *woman* who spouts Bible verses to "justify" her Invincible Ignorance and profound lack of empathy for other women. "BB" carries her babies around as if that proves something great and positive about her, but don't be fooled: she's just as hostile to basic rights as those nasty protesters at the Spokane Planned Parenthood.
