Price of L.P. gas where I live has gone from $1.79 a gallon to $5.25 a gallon in a month

Fortunately, I have a small house heated with natural gas in a nearby town where the ex and I are going to move to on Sunday and I'm going to shut down and winterize this place. That place costs less then a $100 a month to heat in the winter while this house, with the current price of L.P. gas, would run over a thousand dollars a month.

The local radio stations are putting out information as to where low income and senior citizens can apply to get assistance in paying for L.P. gas.

I know some people here are using electric space heaters in an effort to make the gas they do have last as long as possible even though they will be slammed with a huge electric bill later.

Edit: Because of the shortage of gas, the local gas companies are limiting deliveries to 100 gallons of propane at a time for individual customers.

Even though I live in a small house, I worry that there is a shortage. I will be paying my heating bill until next season at the rate things are going now.

Keep bundled up.

So much demand for natural gas for heat that the wholesale price for power plants has jumped. I talked with my co-workers and most are on oil (very common in New England), at about $3.70 a gallon, but one had a new home on propane and she was freaking out. Another has his stove and dryer on propane, but oil for the furnace, and the gas company refused to refill his tank saying they needed it for customers who use it for heat. Now we New Englanders can be a real cynical bunch, so there was a lot of speculation that his "fixed price" contract wasn't helping out...

I bought a house that was on a rare natural gas connection. It's funny how that worked out. The neighbor across the road has oil heat.
