I have a problem that's been very difficult to shake, Update.

Last edited Sun Jan 26, 2014, 07:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Every time, and I mean every time and republican is speaking on TV, like on Rachel's show where she's showing a clip of a republican talking, I can't help but flip them off. I usually leave my finger up until they're done with the clip.

I guess it's a coping response.

I really dislike them.

Update: Now I'm thinking that it is a solution to not breaking my TV.

It is bad enough to see their faces on the screen but to have to listen to their stupidity raises my blood pressure.

And since I just installed a large flatscreen in the great room I don't want to be lobbing tomatoes at it or worse.

Rachel usually does a good job of communicating whatever the nonsense they were spewing in terms that don't cause me to go over the deep end. I still get angry but it is better than listening to them.

It get's better with time. Just be sure to let that anger flow into constructive ways. Run for office. Work for someone running for office. Volunteer at a food co-op. Get to know your neighbors. Volunteer for a food bank. ETC... Use your talents and imagination. Just get involved to act locally while thinking globally. Best yet, do what feels right for you.

But it's better than hurling the remote at the TV. I usually don't hit the mute button, 'cause sometimes their idiocy can actually be kinda humorous. Rachel's take is most often worth the painful assault on my eyes and ears.

My 2014 goal: Defeat the GOP!

Just today, I was watching Meet the Press, and I was yelling "FUCK YOU!" at Rand Paul. And I was insulting David Gregory for lobbing him softball questions and not following up on obviously bullshit answers. What a weak-kneed "journalist."

I yell at the TV/Laptop all the time

He says "Why don't you just shut that shit off?!" He doesn't understand why I watch political shows in the first place. He likes the local news. I call it "kitten up a tree" stuff and it drives me crazy.

My wife does sometimes ask why I watch it. I respond that it's important not to get insular and just listen to people who agree with you. It's easy to do that today, and it's a terrible idea! Not only does it keep you in touch with what "they" are saying first hand, but it keeps your own mind sharp in debating them in you own mind (and sometimes out loud) and reminds you just what's at stake.

Besides, I'm a political junkie. I find it stimulating.

Big mistake. I was alone with the dogs and didn't want to freak them out (if I yell for any reason they think I'm yelling at them), so I just suffered in silence. Then I remembered the remote is still in my hands. Whew!

because then, at least she or another talking head can immediately respond to whichever Republican it is. It would be a different story if it was something like CNN, where there is a weak host, and he or she has BOTH a liberal and a conservative guest. On MSNBC, it's mostly liberals (with the occasional conservative) discussing the clips.
